You carefully pulled out the brown vase from the floor, thinking to yourself worriedly: "If this doesn't stop Jack, nothing will..."

You placed the floorboard back where it belonged, then carefully stepped out of the room.

You tip-toed as quietly as possible as you passed by Dr. Finkelstein, noticing he was working on what looked like some sort of replica of himself. To your disgust, he pulled out half of his brain and placed it in the replica's head as he spoke.

"What a joy to think of all we'll have in common. We'll have conversations worth having!" He stated pridefully.

You put a hand over your mouth to conceal your giggles as the cap of the replica's head that had been opened shut on Dr. Finkelstein's lips as he went to kiss the brain, then you made your way out.

Night had fallen, and the entire town was waiting eagerly to see Jack. You could hear the trio of musicians playing as you got closer, noticing the mayor conducting them happily.

You snuck over to the fountain hoping nobody would notice as you yanked off the cork and poured the Fog Juice in as quickly as possible, and you smiled slightly as you saw it take immediate effect.

You looked over at the sleigh and saw the casket open, and none other than Jack in his completed Santa Suit arose from it backwards, then waved to the crowd with that huge smile still on his skull.

You stepped in by the townspeople and clapped along with them, hoping you'd just blend in.

The mayor went up the stairs and stood alongside the sleigh, grabbing a long piece of paper and beginning to read.

"Think of us as you soar triumphantly through the sky, outshining every star! Your silhouette a dark blot on the moon!"

You tried to keep listening, but your attention was retaken by the fog that was quickly growing thicker and thicker, and spreading throughout the whole town.

"You who have eh... devastated the-the... the souls of the... living?" The mayor struggled to read the paper as the fog reached him.

"Oh no! We can't take off in this! The reindeer can't see an inch in front of their noses..." Jack pointed out in distraught.

"Phew!" You thought, wiping pretend sweat from your forehead.

"This fog is as thick as...as--" One of the vampires was interrupted by the one-eyed monster. "Jelly brains!" "Or thicker!" Another vampire added.

Jack dropped down to his seat in despair, looking devastated.

"There go all my hopes... my precious plans... my glorious dreams..."

You couldn't help feeling guilty, you knew how much he wanted this, but you couldn't risk letting something go wrong.

"There goes Christmas..!" The zombie kid cried, and the crowd made sounds of sadness as well.

You sighed, but then heard Zero start barking, and you felt your heart stop.

His nose. His nose glows, doesn't it?

If it's anything like Rudolph's then...

...Oh no.

"No, Zero... down boy." Jack tried to halt him, but then smiled as he noticed the glowing light.

"My, what a brilliant nose you have... the better to light my way!" He beamed.

"To the head of the team, Zero!" He ordered, and the ghost dog did as he was told, smiling joyfully.

The audience cheered and clapped as they realized their Christmas hadn't been ruined after all, much to your dismay.

"I was so close..." You thought in defeat.

"We're off!" Jack announced, cracking a whip to urge the reindeer on.

"Wait, Jack, no..!" Your pleas fell on deaf ears as the deer ran up the ramp, and Jack went soaring into the air, laughing in victory and excitement.

You stood there, taking a few steps forward in disbelief of what had just happened, reaching up to the sky weakly.

"Jack... please come back..." You mumbled sadly, feeling a tear escape your one eye.

If your vision was true, then that may be the last time you'll ever see him...

...and you didn't even get say goodbye.

You walked towards the gate of the town, not knowing what else to do.

You heard the musicians playing a slow, almost sad sounding tune, and you felt the odd urge to sing.

"I guess being here for so long is starting to take an effect on me..." You thought, smiling only slightly.

You didn't know how or why, but it was as if your voice had a mind of its own, and started singing it's own song.

I sense there's something in the wind...

that feels like tragedy's at hand...

You walked towards the gate, feeling helpless as you continued.

And though I'd like to stand by him

Can't shake this feeling that I have...

The worst is just around the bend

You hung onto the gate, wishing with everything you had that you would see Jack return, but you knew he wouldn't.

And does he notice

how much I need him..?

You looked out into the darkness of the night, your hands shakily slipping despite your grip, and your eye shut for a moment.

And will he see

how much he means to me?

I fear it's not to be...

You looked up to the sky in sadness, noticing a skinny black cat at the top of the gate's structure as you did.

What will become of my dear friend?

Where will his actions lead him then?

You climbed through a gap in the gate, holding on to the bars and reaching out to nothing.

Although I'd like to join the crowd

In their enthusiastic cloud

You walked briefly, then fell to your knees.

I can't help but fear that it won't last

The cat crawled into your lap, purring as you stroked its back gently.

And will we ever

be back together?

No, I fear not

He's gone into the night

I've lost my only light...

You felt tears running down your cheek, and you tried to conceal your face with one arm. The cat meowed, rubbing itself against your chest. It must've wanted to help you.

"First mom, then dad, and now Jack..." You hopelessly sobbed.
