[Matts POV]

It was 3:00am and I was still wide awake playing my video game for the 10th time that night. It wasn't a particularly good game but it meant a lot to me. My girlfriend had bought me it for my birthday which made it special on its own but she was the only person who had remembered about my birthday. I've played this game over and over but I never seem to get bored of it no matter how many times I've beaten it (I've beaten my own high score several times). Anyway I was sat there in the dark listening to nothing but the silence and the occasional noises from my console when I heard a faint crying coming from the other room. I shook it off at first assuming it was something on my game or the neighbours but it started to grow louder. Reluctantly, I put my console down, (not bothering to save my progress because there's no point) and walked onto the landing.
There was only two options of who it could be, Mello or Charlie. Both of these seemed like a stupid and tho as I'd never heard either of them cry and I'm pretty sure they're incapable unlike me on the other hand...I'm a crybaby. I stayed silent for a while listening for where the crying was coming from but as soon as I did, the crying stopped. Sighing, I walked back into my room and picked my gameboy back up and continued to play my game for another half an hour.

~Time Skip~

I was just about to put down my game when I heard a quiet voice come from my bedroom door. I looked up with tired eyes and saw Charlie stood in the doorway with puffed up eyes and I got the answer to my question...she was the one who has been crying.
Instantly I felt terrible that I wasn't as bothered before and stood up straight away to comfort her.
As soon as I was within an inch away from her she broke down crying again.

Matt: "Charlie...? Baby what's wrong?"

Her response was difficult to make out from all the crying she was doing but I managed to understand what she said..

Charlie: "I-I...had a nightmare...I-I saw you die..."

Matt: "What?"

Charlie: "Y-you were shot....and you died...right in front of me..."

I didn't know how to respond...it was true that I'd been shot before, and it was true that she was there but she has saved me from being killed. I just stood there, taking in everything she'd just told me before wrapping my arms around her and hugging her tightly, This made her cry more but I received a hug back. I picked her up like she was a little baby and carried her over to my bed.

Hearing her cry made me want to cry too but I had to stay strong in order to calm her down. I moved my gameboy onto my desk of drawers before carefully lying down on my bed still cuddling Charlie. She had seemed to calm down a little bit but not enough yet.
I had no idea how I was supposed to calm her down as I'd never had to do it before (Charlie normally doesn't cry) but I tried my best, she is my girlfriend after all I'm not gonna just let her be upset I'm not an asshole.
After a few minutes of just sitting there awkwardly with her crying into my shirt I decided to try and talk with her.

Matt: "Baby? Do you feel up to telling a little more about your nightmare?"

Charlie: "I-it was a flashback...of the day I saved your life...but this time I didn't manage to save you..."

I fell silent, having no idea how to respond to what she'd told me. Instead I cupped her chin in my hand and gently pulled her face up to mine before speaking.

Matt: "it was just a nightmare baby. Nothing more nothing less...look I'm alive and here with you, the only place I ever want to be."

Her eyes seemed to lock into mine and I took this time to examine them. Charlie has beautiful emerald green eyes that glimmered in the dim light coming from the street light outside of my bedroom window. I must've been staring into them for a while because she looked away which made me snap back to reality.

Charlie: "I guess you're right...it just scared me....my dreams are so life-like it's horrible..."

Matt: "I promise you that I'm not going anywhere...you think a gunshot can kill me? Cmon I'm the greatest person ever it takes more than a bullet to stop me!"

I laugh slightly and I notice her lips curl up into a smile, that beautiful smile I've missed. I take this opportunity to bring her face closer to mine and in one swift motion I gently plant a kiss on her lips causing her to freeze which makes me laugh again.

Matt: "I know I don't say this often enough but I love you Charlie, more than anything. You saved my life and I'm forever grateful for that."

I notice that she's blushing now and I kiss her again before running my hands through her black, curly hair. I've never really taken into account how naturally beautiful she is and it makes me question what I did right in my life to deserve to be with her.

My thought process is cut off by the feeling of her wrapping her arms around the back of my neck and returning the kiss I had given her. I wrapped my own arms around her waist and pulled her closer to me, not wanting to let go of her in fear of losing her.

Charlie: "t-thank you for comforting me...I love you.."

Matt: "you're my baby-girl I'd do anything for you, I love you too"

Charlie yawned and fell asleep on my chest which made me smile. It had been ages since we had actually spent a night together like this since after the accident on the 26th January, Mello had made us all have our own separate rooms for an unknown reason but I think he was just jealous that I was with Charlie and that she had looked after me more when I was injured (seeing as I had several bullet wounds and Mello only had a few grazes from falling off of his motorbike.) after the Kira case. Part of me felt bad for using Charlie's anxiety and fear to be able to hold her in my arms again but I knew I was doing the right thing by supporting her.

I pulled the covers over the pair of us and gently stroked her hair before kissing her on the forehead and falling into my own deep sleep.

I wish it could've stayed like this forever.
