~Lacey
"Turn left here." I say, directing Leah to Liam's house. He texted me this morning to drop by, probably just to make sure I was doing alright after what happened last night. Im reading off the directions he sent me from my phone.
"Are you sure you should be going to this boys house? I mean, you've only just met yesterday." Says Leah.
I roll my eyes, "yes I am sure. I'm not stupid Leah. He's a good guy, okay? This is it."
I point to the house in front of us and Leah pulls over to the side. I reach to open the door, but it's locked, and I could very easily pull the entire door off if I wanted to, but then she would know what I am, and that definitely cannot happen.
"Unlock the door." I grunt.
"I think you need to stop calling me by my first name, and start treating your mother with some respect."
I scoff and turn to look at her. "But that's just it Leah, you aren't my mother, so I have no reason to respect you. Do you think I wanted my dad to marry you? I had a great mom, and you will never be like her."
Yeah maybe I was being a little too hard on her, but it's gotten worse since after I was bitten. Now it's like I can't even hold in the anger I feel towards her anymore.
She sighs and leans in closer to me. "I know that Lacey. But I am trying. I really am trying."
I swallow hard and look at her for a few seconds more before turning back towards the door.
"Are you gonna unlock the door now or not?"
Once I hear the click of the lock going up, I grab my bag and hop out of the car as fast as I can.
"I'll only be a minute." I call.
As I'm walking up the driveway of Liam's house I notice that there aren't any cars parked, so his parents must not be home.
When I make it to the door, I lift my hand up to ring the bell, but Liam beats me too it, opening the door and greeting me with that same million dollar smile he greeted me with when we first met.
"Come in!" He says.
Once I walk in, I examine the house. "You have a really nice place." I say.
"It's alright, I guess. Why do you have your school bag with you?" He asks.
"Oh, I'm taking the PSATS today."
He gives me a confused look, and I knew what was coming next. "I thought only Juniors were taking that."
I chuckle, "Yeah the juniors and me, and a few other freshmen. If your grades are high enough they want you to take them. I guess my grades from my old school met the standards."
He nods. "So how are you feeling?" I ask.
"Pretty good, you know considering almost dying last night. How about you?"
"I'm doing great. To be honest, the whole night is kind of a blur, which I guess is a good thing. I mean the stab wounds are completely gone. It's almost like it never even happened."
"So what are your plans for today? Anything special?" I say, changing the subject. I'm afraid that if I keep talking about last night, I'll begin to remember more than I want to.
"Unless you count staying inside all day as special, I'd say no." He laughs.
I bring my attention to the clock in front of me and notice that I probably should get going unless I want to be locked out of the testing room. They are very strict about it, and once the door closes, there's no getting in.
