I remember it as if it was yesterday, the bruises, the fever and of course that fateful doctors visit that would change everything.
I was your ordinary teenager that had just graduated high school- partying, shopping, crying because I didn't know what I wanted to be and trying to save up some money.
Life was going good, my best friend Yasmin and I were hanging out 24/7 while trying to deal with all the extra time on our hands. I didn't think anything of the bruises; I had just been hiking, I was bound to have a couple of bruises. And when the fever came along I just brushed it off as one of those summer bugs. But I wish I hadn't, I wish I had paid more attention to what my body was telling me. But of course, me being a teenager with the nothing will ever hurt me mentality, I didn't listen.
The only reason I decided to get it checked out was because of my mum's constant nagging and the sudden onslaught of nosebleeds and a dwindling appetite.

Jade's POV-"Get up you sleepy monster!" I tried to ignore the high pitch voice but soon realised it was never going to stop if I didn't acknowledge it. I groaned and sat up to see a blurry splodge moving around my room. I quickly rubbed my eyes and blinked rapidly and the splodge turned into my bestfriend, Yasmin.
I gaped at an overly caffeinated Yasmin before laying back down onto my bed with a thump.
"Noooo, we have things to do, places to be and a whole lot of coffee to drink!" Her laughter bounced off the walls and her eyes were shining bright with excitement.
"Can you go away for once, I need sleep!" I whined as my eyes already started to droop shut.
"You have brains in your head, feet in your shoes, you can steer your self in any direction you choose." She said before saying bluntly, " And today I choose the new coffee shop that's opening." I groaned at her attempt at recreating Dr Seus poems.
"Why can't you get coffee by yourself?" I mumbled with a yawn.
"Because you're my wing women and Ivy is working there today!" She squealed excitedly.
"Wait, really?" I sat up in a rush making the room spin.
"Yes!" Yasmin squealed as she jumped on the balls of her feet, a grin stretched across her face.
"Well, where are my clothes, let's get you a girlfriend!" My grin matched Yasmin's as she helped pull me to my feet and then proceeded to do a happy dance.
***"Okay, just calm down, big breaths, we're just going to walk in there, order something and remain composed, okay?" I briefed Yasmin who has eating her fingernails faster than my Dad's modified lawnmower cut the grass. We were standing in front of the coffee shop that was bustling with people ready to test out the coffee, the place was stereotypically all leather and brown tones with artwork hung up on the walls.
She nodded before taken a deep breath and walking straight into the shop leaving me to scramble to keep up with her eager hormones while trying to keep a composed face myself.
I walked as fast as I could, apologising the people I was overtaking and only slowed down when I saw what booth Yasmin slipped into, with a huff I finally reached the booth.
"What took you so long." She asked while still looking at the menu. I raised an eyebrow at her as I slipped into the booth and adjusted myself into a comfortable position.
"What do you mean? You were the one that came in here like a headless chicken leaving me behind." I whispered so as not to draw attention to us.
"Do I actually look like a headless chicken!" She asked frantically drawing a few eyes from people walking past.
