Eliza and I walked to the library. When we opened the door immediately I smell pumpkin spice. The old librarian is sitting at the desk by the widow. I am still feeling really bad about jumping off that cliff, and I have no idea how I am going to tell my parents about what I attempted to do. I have almost come to the fact that I should just lie and say I had a great time at camp, which won't be a total lie because I still have 3 weeks of camp left to make memories and forget others.
All the books in the library are dusty and most of the bookshelves have cobwebs in the corner. I can hardly breath in the place and the windows are all covered with blinds so it is very dark in the library.
"So where do we start first?" asked Eliza beside me.
The library is pretty big but it I like any other library I have been to so I am guessing they go in alphabetical order.
"Well the book is called Keepers of the Keys so I am guessing that we start looking in the "k" section" I say matter of factly.
I was correct about it being in alphabetical order, but I was wrong about the book being in the K section. We looked through all the three shelves full of books that start with "k" and it wasn't there. I sorta wish that we had gotten an author from Ellie so that we could look it up in advanced search on the computer catalog. For someone who is really smart she sure does leave a lot of information out when she gives you a job to do.
"Hmm, that's weird" I say looking around the shelves again "if the book were to be anywhere in this library, I would probably be in this section"
"Well maybe Ellie put the book in her Now Reading List." suggested Eliza
"Good idea" I say turning toward the librarian counter "the only problem is that we won't be able to take books from her list."
"Your right that is a problem" Eliza said not really acting like its a problem "don't worry I've got this, I have taken books from her reading list tons of times, she takes like half the library." She says when she sees the look on my face.
"Oh well that makes since, but next time just call the school library and have it delivered by mail." I say truthfully because that is something I have done many times.
"Got it" she says "but right now let's focus on the book we really need right now." She says as she starts walking toward the table
The little frail librarian was reading a book while eating an apple. When Eliza rings the little bell on her desk she looks up, clearly annoyed.
"Hey, Ellie is in class and she wants me to pick up a book for her." Eliza said clearly a pro at this sort of thing.
"Title" the frail librarian said.
"Oh, uh Keepers of the Keys" Eliza said confidently.
"I am sorry" the librarian said "that isn't in her reading list" she says giving Eliza a glare "You both know that you are not allowed to take books from other peers reading lists, get away from the desk and go find a book that is not already checked out!" And with that she sat back down and continued reading her book, although she did not continue with the apple.
"Well" sighed Eliza "I won't be taking any books from her reading list anymore, but where else would that book be?"
We looked around the library for what seemed like an hour, which I know it wasn't because if it had been Ellie and Riley would be back from their classes by now. Eventually we had to sit down.
In the back corner of the library there are a bunch if beanbags and comfy chairs for people to sit in. I have often found Ellie asleep in her favorite beanbag with a book I have already read sitting on her lap. The librarians obviously don't care about her sleeping not in her cabin.
