David and Ann's mother could hardly conceal her amusement at the state of her children. "What have you been doing?" Liz reprimanded through a grin; a failed attempt at scolding the dirt covered pair. "Come with me." David and Ann grinned at each other; they knew they would receive minimal punishment for their day of adventure.
Liz disappeared into the hundred year old stone farm house through the heavy wooden door, leaving David and Ann standing in the bright sunlight. The two looked like suspects in a police line-up waiting to be identified. They stood side by side, between the green tree with its branches over flowing with its small delicate yellow flowers, and the blue tinted steel Avery, filled with birds of all kinds singing their songs to each other.
Liz came back with her small silver digital camera in hand. Raising it up, she cheerfully said "Smile!" David wrapped his arm around his sister's shoulder, and both of them smiled as the camera shutter clicked and the photo was taken.
"Now stay there" Liz instructed. David and Ann where confused as she walked along the cracked cream path towards the water tank. "What is she doing?" David wondered out loud. "I think I know" Ann whispered, her fear returning. "You'd better brace yourself" she concluded. David continued to look confused under his layer of bulldust, until his mother returned. In her hand was a thick green garden hose, slithering behind her like an endless python. "You're not going inside with those filthy clothes" Liz stated, raising the hose.
