"She is a Rose in a field full of weeds, but she is the most dangerous of them all with her hidden thorns"

Somebody I thought I knew

~

I avoided Kaleb's gaze as much as I could whilst everyone conversed about the new revelation.

"So, how are we going to do this?" Mor questioned, hands on her hips as she glanced sideways at Amren who was deep in thought. "Does Rhys go in with her to confront him, or..."

Rhysand shook his head, "it's best if Acacia goes in alone."

I nodded, feeling unusually nervous as I twiddled my thumbs. There could be a number of different outcomes, some bad, some good. What if Alakai refused to give me the information I need? What if something went horribly wrong?

As if sensing my trepidation, Kaleb touched my knee gently and shot me a reassuring glance. "We'll be right here."

"Alright then," Rhysand clapped his hands together, "let's get started."

I nodded, sighing and ignoring the heavy drum of my heart. I focused on Kaleb, who made me feel better just by a mere knee touch.

Closing my eyes, I called out to Alakai through my mind. However, moments passed and nothing happened, he didn't reach out to me. I was about to sigh and open my eyes when I felt a tug inside my mind, and a soft voice whisper 'open your eyes.'

I did as I was told, and just as usual, I wasn't where I originally was. I was in a different room, the same one I had previously met Alakai in, sat on the couch with a cup of tea placed in front of me on the coffee table.

Glancing upwards, I eyed Alakai who lounged opposite me, feline eyes boring into mine as he took a sip of his drink. "What a lovely surprise, you calling out to me for a change."

"I need answers." I clarified, his eyes flashing as he put his tea back on the coffee table.

"Of course. If you're wondering about why I pushed you into the Sidra, I cannot answer that just yet. But just know, it wasn't to harm you."

I sighed through my teeth, "nothing you say makes sense."

"That's because, love, I can't jeopardise you and your safety." He explained, as if that made everything clear. But it only made everything even more confusing.

I shook my head, "forget about that for the time being. I need an answer on something else."

He inclined his head, a strand of his hair falling in front of his eyes, "go ahead."

"You said you knew my parents, even before I was born?" A shadow passed over his eyes, one that was barely detectable, and I was uncertain on whether I imagined it. However, he nodded blankly, so I continued, "did you know- they... they had a child before me?"

I watched his entire body tense, and his eyes shot up to meet mine, calculating and questioning. "Why do you ask?"

"We've figured something out. There's a riddle, in the book of breathings, about my parents. We think, we think they may have sired another child before me."

His eyes were sharper than I'd ever seen them before, "what was the riddle, Acacia?"

"A Spawn of The High Lord of Spring and a Court Jumper will be the Earth's undoing,

Only can they correct their decision,

Which may lead to death and ruin,

Nothing will be the same for the child who will bring a never ending blood rain,

Blue eyes,

Golden blonde hair,

Their path shall destroy or save all."

Alakai stood abruptly, walking past the coffee table swiftly and sitting beside me with sparkling emerald eyes. "You wasn't supposed to find out this way."

My breath got caught in my throat, "are you telling me it's true? I have an older sibling?"

He reached out for my hands, his warm, calloused fingers gripping mine gently. "Yes, Acacia. You have an older sibling."

I gripped his hands, leaning closer. My entire life- I was lead to believe I was the only child of my parents. "Who is it? Where are they? Do you know them?"

He softly laughed, the sound reminding me so much of somebody else's laugh but I couldn't pin point it. Then again, he looked so much like-

"Haven't you figured it out, Acacia?"

My lips parted, I felt like I had received a violent blow to the gut as he air was knocked from me.

"Alakai-" My lips murmured, eyes wide.

He smiled, "I'm your older brother."
