lauren groaned at the sound of her alarm going off, unlocking her phone screen to silence the loud noise almost immediately. today was the day her and camila decided they would talk to olivia about having a little sister or brother. it had been almost two weeks since camila brought the idea up to lauren and it being so last minute, the two decided to talk it over with their social workers and such before sharing the news with olivia. { i'm not extremely educated on who you would talk to in order to adopt and wasn't very fond of doing the research on it so i just figured it was a social worker but i'm probably wrong, work with me here }lauren sat up, swinging her feet to the side of the bed as she threw her wavy hair into a messy bun. she stood up, walking over to camila's side of the bed to place a kiss on her head. lauren was normally the one to get ollie out of bed since camila worked and needed the extra sleep, so most mornings started off with a gentle kiss to the head, being sure it wouldn't wake her from her deep slumber. she hummed to herself as she headed downstairs to start up some coffee.
once her coffee began to brew, she headed back up the wooden stairs that led to ollie's room, being sure to walk in as quietly as she could. lauren looked down at the sleeping girl in awh, admiring the way she held her stuffie so close to her chest, while her other hand rested carelessly next to the pacifier that had fallen from her lips. she loved how peaceful she looked when she slept, it always held her back from waking her in the mornings. "she still not up?" lauren turned her head at the slight whisper to see camila walking in, tying the strings to her robe around her waist. "i couldn't bring myself to wake her just yet," lauren felt camila's hands wrap around her waist as she rested her head on her shoulder "look at her" both women watched their sleeping toddler in silence for a moment, admiring what was in front of them and soon realizing they wouldn't just have one, but two.
a few hours had passed and the day wasn't going as planned but neither of them were giving up considering they still had to find a way to talk to ollie about the situation. camila stacked colored blocks on the floor of the living room as ollie sat happily in front of her, waiting for her chance to knock them down. "alright one more.." camila placed a purple block at the top before scooting back from her spot "go for it!" lauren was lying on the couch, watching the two in amusement. ollie knocked the blocks over and let out a big gasp for the sixth time, recreating the reaction she had already had the last few times she had knocked them over. "again again!" she clapped her hands and began gathering the blocks again, pushing them toward camila.
she saw this as a chance to talk to ollie about the situation, so she had to take it while she could "baby," camila set the girl into her lap so that she was straddling her, causing ollie to play with the necklace around her neck "how would you like it if you had someone who would build your blocks up with you all the time?" ollie raised an eyebrow at camila, not understanding completely "i have you for that" her tone was obvious, making camila feel outsmarted "you're right, you do, but mama works a lot and cant always be here to build them up so you can knock them down-"
"then mommy can do it"
ollie quickly cut her off, getting confused and overwhelmed at what camila was trying to explain "can we build them up again now?" she found her way out of camilas embrace and crawled back over to her blocks, beginning to build them back up herself. camila gave lauren a helpless look before looking back over at the toddler who acted as if the blocks were the only thing in the world at that moment. lauren decided it was time to just jump out with the question, she was four, what could go wrong? "mama and i wanna know how you would feel if you got a new little sister," she moved her way off of the couch and sat next to the small girl, across from camila "one who can play blocks and dress up with you all day, how does that sound?" ollie's block tower stood partially finished before her hands stopped stacking the colored cubes.
she thought for a second, taking in the question that had just been asked before immediately shaking her head as an answer "no thank you" a worried feeling took over the girl, not quite understanding why they would want another girl when they had her. "why not angel? what's making you say no?" feeling the need for affection, ollie climbed into lauren's lap, ignoring her words. she made an attempt at pulling lauren's top up, showing that she wanted to nurse "mommy now" camila leaned back against her hands, feeling the day already hit her with exhaustion "no, i need you to answer my question" lauren pulled her top down before pulling ollie close to her chest, reassuring her that she wasn't mad.
"can you please tell mommy why you don't think having a little sister is such a great idea? i wont be mad, i promise" lauren glances over at camila who she could tell was exhausted and gave her a soft nod, silently telling her that it was okay to head upstairs and nap. camila pushes herself up from the floor and placed a kiss on both the girls heads before heading upstairs, leaving the small living room with just lauren and ollie. lauren rocked her side to side as she rubbed circles on her back, hoping for an answer.
after a few moments of silence, she finally got one.
"if i have a sister, does that mean i cant have my mornings with you anymore?" ollie could feel herself get sad at the question she had asked, not liking the idea of it at all. every morning she was woken up by lauren and from there she was changed, nursed, and cuddled. it was an everyday thing for the two and it kept their bond close. the thought of losing that made her eyes fill with tears.
lauren's heart broke at the question, finally understanding why she wasn't so fond of the idea. "my mornings with you are what keep me happiest little one, nothing can change that, not even a little sister." lauren stood up from the hard wood floor and moved her and ollie over to the couch where she laid her in a cradled position "do you understand that?" she pinched her stomach a few times, causing shy giggles to fill the room, following with a small nod "good girl" lauren felt she knew her answer by now and shouldn't push the girl to give a direct one, instead she decided they would work towards it, but as of now having a sister was a total yes.
lauren lifted her shirt, positioning ollie's head in a comfy spot so she could latch on correctly. after doing so, lauren relaxed as her baby nursed, loving the special bond she was able to have with her.
