Kikyo wasn't surprised when she found out she was getting married. As the third daughter of one of the three largest mafia's, her older sisters had already been married away, in fact, she was surprised she hadn't been engaged sooner.

However, when Kikyo found out she was going to be married to a Zoldyck...she was more than a little uneasy. Everyone knew the Zoldyck's reputation, cold, bloodthirsty, deadly, definitely people you don't want to be involved with. Yet there she was, being engaged to their son.

She had been more than a little worried. Kikyo knew there was no way she could convince her father to break the engagement, he would never listen to her.

Kikyo never had a close relationship with her family, the Yazuki. She loved her older sisters, but, they had left home years ago, and she was always distant her fourteen little sisters, they came from the other wives, she came from the first wife.

As for her mother, well, her mother was dead. Kizoki, Kikyo's mother was killed when Kikyo was still young. Her father, Yazumi, was never much of a father. He gave orders, he planned, he made decisions, he didn't raise her, comfort her, or read her stories. He was boss, not father.

The Yazuki family had never been a great place to grow up. It wasn't full of love, or warm sunny days. It was tense, unnerving, and manipulative. One or two wrong moves, a single slip of the mask, a bit too much trust in a servant, and somehow you find yourself at the bottom of the hierarchy.

To live in the Yazuki house was to live in a chessboard, a puzzle, an ongoing game of tactics between many different players. That butler you've known for years? He may have been bribed by another player to make you make a mistake. Every move had a meaning. Everyone wore a mask, including her.

Kikyo had walked into the Zoldyck manor expecting the same atmosphere. That's why she was more than simply surprised when she met the young man, Silva. You couldn't exactly call him bright and sunny, or even cheerful. It was quite obvious by just looking at his sapphire eyes that he was a killer.

And, Kikyo found herself thinking. It was improper: for her to relax like that. She was Kikyo, the daughter of Yazuki and an influential mafia princess. His was drilled into her.

A proper lady does not smile. A proper lady does not let go. A proper lady is cold, and still and never ever lets her guard down. Kikyo is a proper lady.

On their second meeting—Kikyo is cold again. And she doesn't smile, because she isn't supposed to.

So instead she sits across from him in a stony silence. A small table sat between them, holding porcelain teacups and plates of macaroons. She waits for Silva to initiate conversation.

She messed up last time. She stuttered, and smiled, and wasn't at all proper. But last time isn't this time and this time she will be better.

-

Silva was some mixture of annoyed and confused. He had thought (thought) that they made progress last time. But apparently they didn't. Because this time Kikyo is just as cold as before, maybe colder.

It was irritating.

Would he have to start over? Silva hoped not.

-

Was it improper, that Kikyo had to wrestle down a smile on her way out? Maybe. But, she found herself not caring in the least.
