"My Dearest Father"

[May 1, 1996, England]

By now, this awaited day of the week is the old man's special day. It's Quillsh's birthday, also known as Watari, and it's his 63rd birthday. Although he doesn't feel those things that he should feel right now in every birthday celebrations. Like celebrating his birthday while sharing a bond with the people he became closed with and having the best time of his life. But no.

He doesn't feel his special day, and he expected more than that. He's all alone in the old cottage where he lived there with his family in a long time within years until he focused more on his own priority at the orphanage for gifted children, which is the Wammy's House at Winchester, England.

What a good old days. Those precious memories flashed through his mind. Living in a simple life is unmaterialistic, but life is not the same anymore as it goes.

A lot had to change.

Quillsh is still sitting in the vintage wooden chair at the dining room. Clock ticks, foot tapping and eerily sound of silence are the only few things that can only be heard in the room. After a while he's done reading a book and then correspondingly closed it with a sigh. This is the 4th book he finished tonight and he's already tired. A moment ago while he's reading from the 1st book to the last one, he keeps getting distracted by glancing at the wall clock.

It keeps bothering him.

This is so boring, he thought while sipping on his tea then placed it over the saucer. Quillsh was really bored. He still fighting the urge to sleep because he's waiting for somebody or someone to come. His eyelids feel heavy and were forcing to close.

'Oh dear, not now.'

At this moment he's staring at the window, it's extremely dark outside so furthermore it's hard to detect what's going on this view from inside. There is a one streetlight beside his cottage that dimmed in the dark a little. He noticed that there are no any cars passing by.

Soon after staring at the window, he paid attention at the family picture frame from the shelf next to the radio. Where are they now? He missed them so much, how are his grandchildren now? It's been a long time that he didn't seen them. He recalled his joyful grandchildren running around and playing with each other. He even accompanying them at the park or playground with his daughter and her husband before.

Their laughs and voices, he miss every part of it.

He can't stop glancing at the clock again back and forth, and it's like 11 pm, where are they? So his family will be late or-

He sighed. He doesn't have any idea if they will show up either. They didn't even left a letter or tried to contact him.

This is their old house, and already abandoned since they bought a mansion when they became wealthy. What is the old man thinking? However, he previously went there in the mansion and there are no trace in any of them. So his speculation is they will be here.

Could it be that they moved to other location without informing him? No, that must not be the truth. It will tore apart his heart into pieces. Quillsh blamed himself for everything. Being famous as Watari and making job as his own priority lose the connection towards his family. Maybe that's it.

Wait how about L?

Having that said, L must be really busy for real though, he thought. Considering the contemporaneous cases he have been working on, on top of that he have his latest case in Florida. Poor L, he's absolutely overworked. Once a case closed, a new one opens thus the government are relying on him. He should give it a rest, multi-tasking is not a joke.
