Completely psyched Pauline walked through the streets of Manhatten. This New York trip was like a dream come true for her. For months she had worked hard, saved all her money and now the eagerly awaited trip had finally become reality. At first she had felt a little nervous since it was the first journey she would experience on her own but as soon as she had left the plane she could not hold her excitement back. There was so much to see and so much to do, she did not know where to start!

Ultimatley she decided to go shopping. She was eager to see all the cool thrift stores and find beautiful, rare garnments she would never come upon back home in Germany. A small shop at the end of the road caught her eye and she determined to have a closer look. When she entered the store she immediately was overwhelmed by the large amount of clothes which hung and lay all over the small sales area. The room smelled a little musty but Pauline was not too bothered by it. Suddenly an elderly woman approximately in her 50's appeared and friendly greeted her young customer.

"Hello, nice to meet you! Do you need help with anything or are you just looking around?"

"Oh thank you, I'm just looking around!" Pauline politely declined.

The lady simply smiled and nodded. Rummaging through a pile of tops Pauline got hold of a vintage Beastie Boys t shirt. She happily held it up to examine the piece and could not help but grin.

"So you're a Beastie Boys fan?" Apparently the lady had watched her.

"Absolutely! They are one of my favourite bands." Pauline explained joyfully.

"You know, back in the day I've met them briefly. We had a few mutual friends and if I remember correctly we hung around the same parties every now and then. But that was before their breakthrough." She seemed to get lost in nostalgic thoughts.

"No way! I kinda envy you." Pauline laughed. She really was jealous for she would do anything to party with them just once...

"Yeah, those were wild times. Anyway, I think I have a another shirt of them in the sideroom. Follow me, I'll show you."

Pauline did as she was told, being a bit surprised. Due to the massive amounts of clothes she had not even seen that there was a sideroom. Said room was even smaller than the main one but held almost as much clothes. The saleswoman began to riffle through the items until she obviously hit pay dirt. She was just about to hand Pauline the shirt as the two of them perceived a loud crack. One of the shelves above them apparently could not hold the weight of the clothes anymore and the next thing Pauline sensed was some sort of jab on the back of her head and a thud. Then everything went black and in the distance she heard the echoing voice of the friendly saleswoman who cried for help. All of the sudden it was dead silent.

"...hello? Hey, can you hear me?" The voice seemed to get closer and louder.

Her eyelids felt heavy and she had a massive headache. What happened? went through her mind. Eventually she managed to slowly open her eyes which she regretted instantly. The daylight seemed way too radiant.

"Ah good, she's waking up." A strange male voice commented.

Pauline dared another try to open her eyes. At first her sight was rather blurry and the only thing she saw were two vague figures bent over her. Slowly but surely her sight came back to normal and she looked into unfamiliar faces.

"What happened? Where am I?" She mumbled.

"We're in the book store. You passed out again, you dummy." The girl next to the guy, who presumably owned the store, laughed.

Who is that girl? And why does she call me a dummy? Do I know her? Pauline could not wrap her head around the situation, she was beyond confused.

"Don't worry, she'll be fine. She's got issues with her blood pressure and tends to faint." The girl explained the owner who then walked off and took care of his other customers. How does she know about that? I've never seen her before.

"Here, let me help you up." The girl announced and grabbed her hand. Even though she still had no idea what was going one she came to the conclusion that she had to trust the strange girl, at least for the moment. So she took her hand and the young stranger pulled her back to her feet.

"You alright?" She asked.

"Yeah, still a bit dizzy but I guess I'm good." Pauline replied.

"Great. So let's pay for the book you picked and get you something to eat."

"Book?" She was completely baffled by now but the girl just bursted with laughter again.

"Damn, you're really rattled, huh? The book in your hand!" She gestured towards Paulines left hand and she was actually holding a book. Pauline took a look at it. "Through time and space" the title simply said in a golden curved writing on a blue background. (a/n I just made that book up, just so you know :D).

"To be honest I'm a little surprised you picked this one. Doesn't seem like anything you'd usually be into."

How did that girl know what she usually was into? Pauline still struggled to form sentences.

"You know what, you better go outside and catch some fresh air. I'll pay for you and we'll meet outside." And with that the girl walked towards the counter.

Pauline stepped outside and took a deep breath as she intently tried to remember how she had gotten here and how she could possibly know that girl. Deep in thought she took a look around and it occured to her that things kind of seemed... weird. The cars looked rather out of time and the people were dressed in a very vintage way. All the surroundings appeared to be old. Her train of thought was abruptly interrupted.

"Here's your book." The dark haired girl declared.

"Thank you." Pauline whispered and put the book into her handbag.

"No probs. Alright, let's get you something to eat and then we best head home and take a nap. I mean we wanna be in shape for the party later on."

"Party?" A party was the last thing Pauline wanted at that moment.

"Gee, has someone hit you on the head recently? You're in a complete tizzy. The party at Shannons place tonight! Rumor has it that the Beastie Boys are gonna be there too. So come on!" She started walking. "...and if I remember correctly we hung around the same parties every now and then."

And suddenly it hit Pauline. The dark haired girl was not just any girl. She was the saleswoman from the thrift store! But that would mean...

No, that could not be. She could not have travelled back in time.

...or could she?
