Chapter 3:
AUDREY’S POV
We were about half way home when Mr. Elijah spoke.
“So what are your plans next year?” He asked me, but his gaze was on the road.
Oh god. Why is he trying to converse with me? Can’t we just keep the awkwardness of the atmosphere? He doesn’t need to try too hard.
“Uhmm well, If I get the grades that I need I’m going to University to study Architecture” I answered him.
“Wow. I’m impressed” He said as he looked at me and smiled.
“Thank you” I said and smiled back.
“You know you gotta be confident once you’ve become an Architect” He told me.
“I know” I said bluntly.
How many times have I heard that?! From my mom, dad, aunties, uncles and even my cousins.
I’m sick of hearing it. It sounds so patronizing.
“There really is no reason for you to be shy” He told me.
“Well sir, you don’t know me” I said. Is it just me or that sounded rude and harsh?
“Maybe. But I know why you lack confidence…” He started to say.
Here we go again, with his smart-ass comments.
“And why’s that sir?” I challenged him.
“Okay wait. Stop calling me sir. Didn’t I already tell you off for calling me that? You can even just call me Elijah since we’re outside college. But please stop calling me sir” He told me.
“Sorry” I said.
“As I was saying… From what I’ve seen, everyone in the class doesn’t like you.” He said.
“Oh well done Mr. Elijah. You deserve a medal” I said sarcastically.
He laughed slightly.
“Let me finish. So yeah, just because your classmates doesn't like you it makes you think that there’s something wrong with you. Am I right?” He asked me.
“Well, I thought you knew the reason” I smirked.
“Well played Audrey. Well played” he said, which turned my smirk into a smile.
I feel so accomplished. I just silenced my teacher and it felt so damn good.
“I think I know why they don’t like you” He suddenly said as he pulled over in front of my house. We’re here already?
But wait, what?
He knows the reason why they don’t like me?! I’ve always wanted to know the answer to that question.
