“Laura Greene.”

The administrative nurse called Laura’s name. Laura hated that, especially in a place like this. You never want to hear your name out loud in a place like this. Laura got up slowly and looked around to see if anybody in the waiting room was looking at her. Of course, they were. They were curious just like she would be if the nurse called their name.

Laura made sure her big Chanel sunglasses were snugged tightly on her face covering her eyes and half of her facial features. Bad enough her name was just introduced to the world, she didn’t want just any ole body recognizing her on the street from here.

Laura lowered her head as she walked to the nurse. The nurse smiled that reassuring smile, something they teach you to do in those many days of training. Assure the patient, or client, coming in so as to establish a sense of empathy and non-judgment.

Laura just half smiled back and followed the nurse through the door she just walked out of. Laura didn’t lift her head up until the nurse stopped at a room with a door already opened. The nurse gestured with her hand to go inside the room, smiled again, and walked away.

Laura stepped in the room. It was typical with the weight scale machine, chair, cabinets full of antibiotics, a desk with all types of pamphlets and folders, and a swivel chair next to the desk. The huge gurney chair in the corner of the room with the foot holds was what Laura noticed last but sat down on.

A lady in all white lab coat with stethoscope around her neck and a clipboard in her hand walked in the room a few minutes later.

“Miss Greene,” the lady greeted. “My name is Doctor Michelle Murray. I’ll be conducting your tests today.”

Laura looked at Dr. Murray and thought she looked more like a model than a doctor. She was tall and slender with caramel skin. Laura didn’t have a sexual attraction to females but if she was to be a lesbian, Dr. Murray could do more with her coochie then examine it.

“Laura,” Laura said. “You can call me Laura.”

Greene was the last name she used to not fully reveal her true identity. But now she felt a little guilty for the deception.

“Okay, Laura,” Murray smiled and sit down on the swivel chair. “You can call me Michelle. I see we’re here to get ourselves checked out.”

Laura nodded.

“Okay, so we can check for all types of stuff today,” Murray said glancing at her clipboard. “First I have to ask you your age and are you sexually active?”

“I’m 17 and yes I’m very sexually active,” Laura informed.

Murray looked at Laura for a minute, not like a doctor but more like a motherly look. Then she went back to her clipboard. Laura was used to the procedure. Was used to the looks. She was a sexually active teen that was already branded. Murray rolled herself over in the swivel chair towards Laura.

“You ready?” Murray asked trying to put up that assuring smile.

Laura was used to that word. Most guys say it just before they entered her and she said to the doctor just like she told all of them.

“Whenever you are.”

“How did it go in there?”

Laura looked at her best friend, Mariyah, as she walked out the place from hell. Laura hated going there but Mariyah hated it more, that’s why she never went in there when Laura went. Mariyah gladly waited outside until Laura came out. And she always asked the same question. And got the same reply.
