What Just Happened?

Chapter 4 -- Duck Dynasty Celebration Dance

Neither one of my parents are here when I get home from school so I just sit around and watch TV until they get here. When I turn on the TV I scroll through all of the channels trying to find something decent to watch because everything on TV is either fake or stupid... so I find a rerun for Duck Dynasty so I watch that for a while

My phone vibrates, it's Carter.

"Hey, can I ask you something?"

My stomach for some reason started to turn and create butterflies but I just answered back with,

"Yeah sure what's up?"

"Ok so on Saturday Me, Matt, Nash, Danielle, and Hayes are going paintballing and I asked them if I could bring someone and I was wondering if you'd like to come along and be player number six and Carter's date?"

My heart, I'm pretty sure, skipped a few beats by the time I read the whole text. i was getting overwhelmed by how he put the text even, it was so smooth and clever. That word play though...

"Aww, let me ask my parents if we're doing anything Saturday. And just wondering who's Danielle?"

I knew I wasn't doing anything Saturday, but just to kill some happy time I stood up on the couch and started dancing to the Duck Dynasty theme song. I felt pretty good by the time the 20 second song ended.

After that, I sat back on the couch and got a message from him saying,

"Danielle is Matt's cousin."

"oh, ok I've just never met her. btw my parents said yes, so we're on for Saturday!"

"Awesome, tell your parents I said thanks!"

so I thought I might as well get girly and send kissy face emojis and crap like that even though I never really do that,

"Np(emoji)"

I've only seen Matt a few times because Matt is like Carter's best friend. He seems like a nice guy, he acts like a kid most of the time. He makes ridiculous faces and has the cutest laugh I've ever heard.

Nash and Hayes I've only seen around school and never really talked to because they are popular... and I'm not.

I just realized this "date" would be really weird, or is it even a date? Carter asked me to be his date right?

"Hey, just wondering, is this gonna be just two friends hanging out with others or will this be like a date?"

He read my text 2 minutes ago, he usually answered back right away... did I come on to strong asking him if it was a date? Oh no...

I got a text back saying,

"I was kind of hoping it was a date if that's ok with you..."

relief shot through me as once as I read the message. so I replied back,

"Of course it's ok with me!!!"

Ok not was THAT to weird? he said back

"Awesome!"

... Ok so I guess it wasn't that weird to him. I get so nervous about these things!
