Maybe, Just Maybe [Paused]

chapter three

         I guess yoiu could say I've discovered a new friend. Me and Piper are becoming pretty good friends. I still don't talk to her that much but unlike anyone else she has got me to let a few words slip. I couldn't call her my friend yet. I had to gain her trust and she had to gain mine. I walked home from Piper's house which was like 5 seconds away from my house. i walked in the front door and walked into the kitchen to make food. I basiclly made all the food in the house because my mom was so depressed. Luckily there was lasagna in the fridge that I could just heat up. Iwaited silently for 5 minutes until I heard the bing of the timer saying the lasagna was ready. I cut two big slices and put them on a plate , slowly making my way to my mom's bedroom. I knocked quietly.No sound. Quietly I edged it open. There was my mom huddled under her blankets.

               "Mom I...I brought you some food."  she pulled the covers back , Sat up and sniffed, wiping the tears away with the back of her hand. That was my mother, trying to be strong for my sake.

             "That's very sweet of you. Thank you Dakota."

               "You're welcome."  she sniffed once again taking the food from my hands. As I left the room I couldn't help but noticed how desheveled she was. Her red running nose, fuzzy red hair, sagging eyes and you could tell that she'd gained a pound or two. I walked to my room to finish my meal feeling sorry for my mom. I wish my dad was here.

                The next morning I woke up feeling well rested. I got ready for school and walked to school. Surprisingly Ally didn't come to try to talk to me. Well I shouldn't be that surprised considering the conversation I overheard between Alexus and her. I was actually sort of happy that I didn't have Ally chasing after me all the time. Finally I have her off my back! I thought to myself. This really was going to be a good day.

             "Dakota!" Piper waved me over. I hustled over to her and her group of friends. "Dakota this is Steph." she said gesturing to a pretty girl off to her right.

              "hey." said the girl Steph or whatever her name was. I gave her a curt nod. Piper rolled her eyes.     "She does this thing were she is mute and won't talk." She explained to Steph. I glarted at Piper but i was miling on the inside.   

                "I am not mute." Piper grinned.  

                 "Well would ya look at that! The mime talked!" Piper said pretending to be astonished. Steph giggled and I couldn't help but do the same. The bell rang and we all walked inside. The group of girls was infront of me and I stuck to the back just barely tagging along. Before I reached my locker a hand grabbed my shoulder. I whipped around to see Dennis's sparkly blue eyes gazeing into mine.

               "I see you've made some new friends." The same smile that used to melt me but now seemed just like a normal smile now played across his face. I nodded. "Well maybe because you gave another chance at friends maybe you could give another chance at us." I froze. Did not see that one coming. I didn't know what to say or do but not before he kissed me on the lips.
