Maybe, Just Maybe [Paused]

chapter eight

        I walked to shool with Piper the next day. I didnt tell her about he kiss because even I personally didn't understand it. He just got up and left! I mean who does that?

         "So what did you and Ashton get up to last night when we left?"

         "Nothing ."I said a bit too quickly.

          "OMG! You two are in love." She gasped poking me in the side. Overdramatic much. I rolled my eyes at her.

           "We honestly didn'tdo anything yesteday."

            "Please tell me you didn't kiss," Damn tthis girl is good "you kissed didn't you?"

             "No."

             "Yes you did. You are caught red handed!"

             "Okay fine we kissed once but right after he got up and left."

             "Say what now?"

             "Right after we kissed he left."

             "Why?"

              "I don't know!"

              "Well.. umm...maybe..." Piper cut herself off, not knowing how to help.We were at school by now and Steph and some other girls from Piper's possy came to join us. I didn't really like the people scene and broke away from the crowd, not even bothering to say bye. I walked and found a nice bench on the side of the school were nobody was. I sat down happy to finally get some peace and quiet. Unfortuneately I forgot my book at home so I had nothing to read. I made a mental note to bring it next time and took out my phone decideing to check my texts instead. I scrolled down all the texts.

Dennis: I know u dont like me anymore butr im not giving up on u D

Piper: do u like ever check ur phone?

Piper: Hello?

Steph:Hi:)

Dennis: Im not givn up on u          

         "What are you doing here all alone Dakota." I looked up to see Luke standing infront of me.

         "Oh, hey! Not much , what are you doing?"

         "Going to say hi to Steph. Wanna come?"

          "Just ask her out already."

          "I'm working on it." he said walking away.

            The bell just rang to indicate that school was done. Ashton has been ignoring me all day. I walked out and was on my way to the Muffin Shoppe to get a muffin when somone grabbed my shoulder. I whipped around ready to protect myself when I realized it was Ashton.

             "Umm hi." he siad awkwardly.

             "Hi."I replied. He rubbed the back of his neck.

             "Umm about yesterday. It was a mistake"

              "Mistake?"

              "Yeah, a big mistake."' What am I doing? But it was already to stop. I got up on my tippy toes and kissed him passionately. Finally when we broke apart breathless I spoke.

             "You call that a mistake?"

              "Did I say mistake? I meant perfection."

            I lay awake at night just thinking. How did I not know Ashton before the incident? I mean I noticed Piper before why not Ashton? He some how keeps such a low profile, flying undetected on the  high school radar (which is basically impossible). I should start calling him Mr. Mysterious from now on. I couldn't help myself when my mind drifted to the thought of the kiss. Maybe I can fall for someone again. Maybe I could have friends again. Maybe I could get my life back. Maybe, just maybe.
