Kat walked down the stairs, Nikolas right behind her, holding her suitcase for her. The young girl tried to control her breathing, and stop the shakyiness, but nothing was working.
"Ah, Katherine." Ms. Judy greeted, her russian accent piercing the air.
Kat flinched at the sound of her full name, and she stuttered out. "I-i-it-t's Ka-at."
"Right, apologizes," Ms. Judy said, turning to the couple. "Are you sure your ready for her? She's um...a bit complicated."
Jensen nodded. "We're sure." And he reached out, putting a hand on Kat's shoulder.
Kat shrugged him off, before readjusting her bag on her shoulder, looking at her feet, her blonde hair falling in her face.
"Okay, if you insist, let me finish getting the paper that you both sign, and then your off." Ms. Judy said, before walking off.
Kat didn't realize she had started crying, her body's shaking, her lungs gasped for air. Jensen noticed her distress, and put a hand on her shoulder. "Hey, Kat, breathe, it's okay." He said, but it was no help.
She took deep but short breathes. "Kat, breathe, it's okay." Jensen said, and Kat tried...she felt faint. She clung to Jensen, who rubbed her back, and told her soothing words.
When Ms. Judy came back, Kat had let go of Jensen, wiping her tears.
"Well, here are the paper," Ms. Judy said, handing him the paper.
He signed it, before turning to Kat. "Ready to go?" He asked.
Kat shook her head, 'no', before racing over to Nikolas, giving him a hug.
Nikolas hugged back for a couple of seconds, before pulling away. "Go, enjoy your new family."
Kat sighed softly, before nodding, and going over to Jensen."R-R-Ready." She stuttered.
Jensen nodded and led her out the door, and towards their car. Kat breathed in...'it feels different, this couple.' She thought, getting into the car.
"So, Kat, how you doing?" Daneel asked.
"F-fine," Kat responded. "H-how a-a-about y-you?"
Daneel smiled at her. "Splendid."
Jensen got in the car, starting it, before leaving th orphanage. "Just to let you know, we have a daughter named J.J. and twins Zeppelin and Arrow."
"T-t-thats fine." Kat hummed, before gazing out the window, her brown eyes scanning everything. She actually had hope about this new family.
And she hasn't been hopeful since she was 10.
