6 hours after Zane and Nana headed back to the resort, it was time to get up for another day. Nana, unsurprisingly, didn't get any sleep last night. She tossed and turned in her bed for hours before giving up and spending the rest of her early morning quietly reading and watching YouTube. Excitement peaked within her once she saw the sun start to rise.
Nana's POV
"It's morning!..." I whisper to myself, not wanting to wake anybody in the house up. "They should be up soon..."
But what am I going to distract myself with until then? Irene knows how much everyone loves to sleep in nowadays. It could be another 3 hours until they wake up! I've finished my book, and I've pretty much caught up on all my YouTube...
"Think, Nana, think!" I say to myself, scratching my ear. "What does 'Kawaii~Chan' love to do more than anything else in the world?"
No. That wouldn't work. "Kawaii~Chan" loves shipping. It's not like I could ship people right now without them being totally creeped out. What else... What else...
"THAT'S IT!!!"
Oh, kitty crap! I cover my mouth immediately, aware of how loud I was being. I wait for a couple a seconds, before breathing out a sigh of relief that no-one woke up.
Pancakes, everyone loves pancakes, right? And I'm sure everybody would appreciate the gesture of me making some for breakfast.
Especially a certain someone...
I giggle slightly and subdue the thought, before carefully tip-toeing towards the kitchen. There, lay every single ingredient known to man, and every whisk, bowl and plate, ever! I crack my knuckles, before getting to work.
Zane's POV
"Ngh..." I mutter, placing my hand on my forehead. With a struggle, I lift my head up to look at the clock.
6:52am
Why can I hear such a racket in the kitchen when it's this early in the morning? Jeez... did everyone forget we're on vacation?
I hop out of bed, careful to not wake Garroth up, change into my usual clothes and brush my hair, before going downstairs to investigate the noise. I edge slowly downstairs, the noises of pots and pans clanging together gradually becoming louder. When I turn the corner into the kitchen, I could not believe what I saw.
There, humming away happily to herself, was Nana. Swinging her hips to some imaginary beat in her head, cradling a bowl and holding a whisk with the other hand, dressed in a soft pink apron and head piece. There seemed to be some kind of frosting on the tip of her nose.
Wait a second, is she cooking?
Unsure of what to do, I clear my throat and say, "Nana?"
She jumps, physically startled, her tail becoming much more straight.
"Oh, uh, hi Zane~!" she sung. I ignored her admittedly, honey like voice, and got to the point.
"What in Irene's name are you doing at this time, baking?" I asked, scratching my head. She giggled slightly, sending waves down my spine.
"Well, in truth, I was going to surprise everyone with some breakfast pancakes. Buuut I guess you caught me. Nihihihi~"
I walked up to her, inspecting her cooking.
"They're a-almost done!" Nana explained.
I reach under the cabinet and pull out a black fabric. Nana tilts her head, confused. Until I put it on.
"A black apron?" she asks, "Zane, what--"
"Well, I could at least be some help, right? In fact, I think I'm quite handy in the kitchen!" I exclaim, striking a pose in my black cooking attire.
Nana let out a heart warming chuckle. "Zane! This is so unlike you!" she covered her mouth with her hand to stifle the sound. The room was filled with two seconds of silence, before I walked over to her, picked her up, and plopped her on the kitchen counter.
"Zane?~" she whined in confusion. I smirked underneath my mask and muttered,
"Nana, you have something on your nose~"
Before she could reply, I booped my index finger on her nose, sticking the frosting to my hand, then plopping the finger in my mouth. I heard Nana's cries of disbelief and laughter, but all that was drowned out by the deliciously sweet taste circulating in my mouth.
I looked over at the clock, it read: 7:30am
"Well. As fun as that was, I think if we'd want to finish these pancakes, we'd have to do it fast."
Nana let out a whine, "but Zane. I was just beginning to have a lil' fun!"
I brought my mouth up to Nana's ear, I heard her breath audibly hitch.
"Maybe," I said, "if we can finish making these, I'll take you out later, on me."
I pulled back, Nana letting go of her breath. With a nod, she gave me one of her heart warming smiles.
And so the work began.
