Nocturnal: Silver and BloodI.
By: Isaiah E. Colesanti
London, England 1885 Winter
Frederick was sitting on the wooden pews in the church interior where the orphans go to pray or listen to the preachings by Father Joshua. Father Joshua has helped raised Frederick since he was three, even that the boy is eight he still had much to learn. When Fred was sitting down staring at the cross with Jesus being crucified. He thought about the day when he could be adopted by a simple English family who can take care of him. When Fred was dazing at the cross he then hears a small giggle of a friendly voice. That friendly voice was the one who would change his life forever, Adele. The young scarlet haired girl had both of her hands around the bottom of her chin staring at Frederick with a curious intent to ask what's going on with him. If there was one person Frederick has made the closest friendship with it would be Adele.
"Frederick," she smiled with her innocent voice so sweet and soothing. When Fred first met her he would compare her to how beautiful the Angel Lilith was.
"Adele," he replied addressing her name with his daze gone.
"Why did you skip confession yesterday?"Asked Adele as she places both hands on the bottom of her chin.
Fred had reasons not to confess how he felt about being raised here for the past five years. He hated this place, he wished he could go outside to play whenever he wanted, eat better foods rather than bread or soup, and leave the church. He may have wanted that but for a boy his age, he would be vulnerable to the worst people that continue their evil deeds. In the church, he would never understand this was his only home.
"Adele? Do you ever get tired of being here?" Frederick asked with curiosity, which gave Adele an idea of where they were now.
"I guess so, but I just don't want to be alone anymore. Like I was a year ago Fred, it's always cold, everyone is mean to me and they always hurt me. I got nowhere to go, Fred." Stated Adele as she began pushed her strand of red hair away from her face and back.
"I guess you're right." Said Fred as he began to look back at the cross he was gazing at.
Adele was saved by Father Joshua when she came to the church last year wearing a dirty black and white dress skirt which had mud and blood stains on it, her face was badly bruised and when she was examined by doctors, her body was beaten, bruised and cut from the arms, the legs to the back. When Fred first met her she was crying all alone by herself, luckily he was the one to help her get back on her feet and learn how to see the good in the world than the bad. There are days when her horrors call back to her and that's when she would need Frederick to support her. Father Joshua provided her with the best consoling when it came to her troubles.
Father Joshua continued to preach about the Red Sea when Moses came to save the Hebrews. It was one of Frederick and Adele's favorites, to them it was a great story of freedom, hope, and faith. After finishing the last part of the scriptures, Father Joshua closes the Bible and the Nuns sitting m through the rows of wooden bleachers clapped to the sharing of the story. But Adele and Frederick just sat there and smiled at probably their one-hundredth time listening to that story. Frederick was suddenly jumped by Sister Anna a very stern yet strict Nun that would make sure the children don't miss a day of prayer, confession, or Sunday services.
"Frederick Calvin!, where have you been yesterday?!, you missed confession." Yelled Sister Anna as she snatched Frederick's arm.
"Adele, I believe you should go to your room and prepare for bed. You, Fredrick, are coming with me." Continued Sister Anna as she breathed with demand.
