Chapter 3

Rick's POV
I don't really understand....how or why I allowed for this to happen. Glenn and Abraham trusted me to lead them...to keep them safe and I....I failed them. I failed everyone. I told them we could win, that we could kill Negan but I....I was wrong....I was so wrong and now Glenn and Abraham are dead because of it.

I feel a bump in the road but everything is really out of focus. Cody....he....oh my god I might have just lost Cody I don't even know. I shake my head in disbelief before bringing my eyes to the walls of alexandria....home.

I hear the others talking but all I can hear is a quite buzz in my ears. Glenn and Abraham were counting on me and I failed them. How could I have done that to them.

"Rick." I turn to see Michonne looking at me with concern. "Michonne" I say with tears in my eyes. I let out a sigh before looking down at the ground.
"Rick...we're here....we're back home."

I look out the window to see people gathering around the RV. I let out a very long sigh before getting up from my seat and heading towards the door.  As I step out of the RV  I see everyone looking at us. "Rick what are we gonna tell them?" Michonne asks me.

I shake my head before looking at her. "I don't know....gather everyone in the church." I tell her before walking away from her.
"Rick where are you going?" She asks me
"I need a minute alone.....just.....just a minute....please." I ask her.

She lets out a sigh before nodding her head and walking away. I let out a sigh before looking down at the ground. I let everyone down......I let Cody down and I let Glenn and Abraham down. How could I have been so fucking stupid. I shake my head in confusion. We never should have made a deal with the hilltop.

Two of my people.....my family...just dead.....gone...I can't let that happen.....there are eighty five of us left.....I can't let that happen. I won't let that happen....

The people seemed concerned.....these people.....I guess they're my people. They have hundreds of people.....Jesus said that the hilltop had about 203.....that's high...but not enough....not enough.

"The saviors ambushed us...they knew we were coming.....they had us...they killed Glenn and Abraham.....we belong to the saviors now,to Negan....I'm sorry....we now give them half of our supplies......we're...all Negan now." I tell them.

Jessie stares up looking at rick with sadness and concern. "Where's Cody?" She shakes her head in fear.
"His wound opened back up,we had to take him to the hilltop." I tell her.

"You....you just left him there alone?" She ask me shaking her head in confusion. "I had no choice....he was injured and the hilltop was closer....he....he never would have made it back here." I tell her.

"What about Daryl....what happened to him?" She asks me. "Negan took him...I don't if he's still alive or if....I don't know....I know you all have questions but I'm sorry. I don't have anymore answers for you....tomorrow I'm taking a group out....we'll scavenge what we can but I don't know what else to do.....we follow Negan and we get to live....it's that simple." He says before walking away.

Rick let's out a sigh as he walks out of the church. "Rick!" I turn around to see Jessie and Ron walking towards me. "I have to go to the hilltop....I have to get to my brother." She says with concern but I shake my head.
"Jessie we don't have the men to send after him...we have to search for supplies." I tell her.

"You can send others to do that...us three can go to the hilltop." Ron says looking at his mom before putting his hand on her shoulder.

I shake my head once again. "I can't....I have to find supplies." I tell them. Jessie shakes her head in despair. "You want me to just sit here not knowing if Cody  is alive or dead....no fuck that...we'll go to him ourselves." She says looking at Ron and he nods his head agreeing with his mother.

"Jessie it's not safe....it's forty miles from here to there....they're to far away...you and Ron-"
"Can hold our own." Jessie says glaring up at me.
"I know your upset,I am too but we can't risk it....after Negan's first visit we'll go get him together." I tell her.

"And when will he be coming?" She asks me. I let out a sigh before replying to her. "He'll be here in two weeks." I tell her. She lets out a small laugh before shaking her head. "Are you fucking kidding me...two weeks?" She says and that's when I put my hand on her shoulder.

"I know....I don't like it either but I promise after Negan's visit we'll all go....together."

She lets out a sigh before looking down at the ground. "Ok." She says. I nod my head before removing my hand from her shoulder before backing away. "I'll come find you later...we can talk." I tell her.

"Ok." She says before she grabs Ron's arm and the two of them walk away. I let out a sigh before making my way towards my own home.

As I make my way toward the house my thoughts are pillaged by the images of my friends heads being smashed into the ground. I shake my head trying to get rid of all my thoughts but they just keep coming.

I let out a sigh of relief as my house comes into my view. I reach the porch and the moment I walk in I make way towards the couch and just fall back onto it.

I let a sigh before looking up at the ceiling. I was so sure.....I was so sure that we had them....but we never had anything....we lost....plain and simple. Negan had no problem bashing in Abraham and Glenn's heads. I don't want to see that happen ever again.

That's when my thoughts go to Cody. Oh I already miss him deeply. Jessie had a point I know but...I had to leave him...he's safe...I know he's safe. I let a smile fall to my lips. No matter what he's alive and I'll take that as a victory. I close my eyes to the thoughts of Cody smiling down at me with such happiness in his eyes.

Three hours later

"Dad!" I hear making me open my eyes in shock and confusion. "Carl!" I say Jumping  to my feet looking around but seeing no one in the room. That's when Carl comes running in. "What's wrong?" I ask him.

"It's Jessie and Ron." He says shaking his head.

I let out a sigh before looking back up at him.

"How long ago did they leave?" I ask Michonne as I look at Jessie's house. "We have no idea....Carl went over there about half an hour ago to check on Ron and when he realized that they wasn't in there he decided to check the rest of Alexandra but he couldn't find them....they're gone." She says shaking her head.

"Who knows where they're at and they're out there by themselves." Carl says shaking his head.

"I know where they went....they're going to the hilltop." I says shaking my head in disbelief.

"That makes sense....Cody's her brother....of course she went after him." Michonne says.

"We have to go after them." Carl says but I shake my head. "We can't....we have no idea when they left or where they're at." I tell him.

"We know that they're on their way towards the hilltop...we can't just leave them out there." Carl says shaking his head at me.

"I told Jessie that we had to wait until after Negan visits but she clearly made her decision....we have to focus on supplies." I tell him.

Carl looks at me with disbelief written all over his face. "So we're just gonna leave them out there?" He asks me.

"We don't have a choice." I say before looking at Michonne. "We have to go look for supplies." I tell her.

That's when she looks at me in disbelief. "We're actually gonna do that.....we should be planning for our next attack." Michonne says with Carl nodding at her in agreement.

I shake my head before looking at the both of them. "We already fought them and we lost.....they killed two of ours....we don't have the man power to Attack them....there's to many of them for us to deal with."

"So your solution is to serve the savors....Negan?" Michonne asks me.

"That is the only solution." I say looking at both of them in the eyes before walking away from them.
