Cole busyed himself in the kitchen, making sure the food was perfect- or at least edible. Cole hadn't realized his father arrived home until he heard his voice, causing the earth ninja to jump and drop a spatula in surprise. "Oh Dad you're home!" Cole greeted, bending over to grab the fallen spatula. Cole then stood up straight and looked at his father, trying to waver the mans emotions. "How was work?" He asked, turning to the sink to rinse off the spatula.

"Mm, exhausting. We had a new guy and he was such a handful." Coles father hummed.

"Oh.." cole said disappointment filling him. He was hoping his father had a good day, that would make easier to break the news to him. Cole started to dish up the cooked food onto the table, laying plates and cutlery to three spots at the table.

"Quite a feast you're making." His father commented.

This was it, the moment he was dreading since he had began dating jay; telling his dad about it. Anxiety rushed through him as he tried to come up with a way to say that his new boyfriend- first ever boyfriend- was coming over for dinner.

"Yeah.. I'm having someone over, if that's ok."

"That's fine. Is it a girlfriend finally?" He said in a teasing manner.

"Actually-" but before cole could say anything more the doorbell rang. Being saved by the bell cole rushed to the front door, opening it to see the very person he had been scared to mention.

"Hey!" Jay greeted cole. He was dressed in a white dress shirt, black pants and a light blue tie. Cole looked down at his less fancy attire of a black shirt and jeans.

"You didn't have to dress up." Cole spoke up.

"I wanted to make a good impression." Jay shrugged, sending an awkward smile to his boyfriend.

"I'm really nervous." Jay chuckled, rubbing his hand on the back of his neck.

"Me too." Cole nodded. Jay smiled, sending a wave of confidence through the black ninja.

"Let's go." Cole held onto Jays hand and lead him into the kitchen.

"Hey dad, you remember jay right?" Cole gestured, dropping his hand from Jays due to habit. Jay slightly frowned at coles action, wanting reach for his hand and never let go. But instead he just stood quietly.

"If I recall correctly yes." Coles father nodded. Jay had visited tons of times, only a small handful of them being when Coles dad wasn't working.

The three sat down for dinner, cole and jay sitting next to each other while Lou sat across from them.

"Dad... I need to tell you something." Cole spoke up, taking a deep breath. He needed to do this for himself, and for jay. As he mentally went over what he was going to say he told himself that his fathers reaction didn't matter, and that cole would stay with jay regardless of his opinions.

"Go on with it," Lou said after Cole took a much longer pause then intended. Jays gaze shifted between his boyfriend and Lou.

"Jay is.. my boyfriend." Cole blurted out, butterflies completely taking over his stomach.

"You're gay?" His tone wasn't in complete surprise but in more of a curious clarification way, as if he was intrigued but also felt as if he had heard wrong.

"Y..yeah." Cole voice cracked. Jay took a hold of Coles hand from under the table.

His father stood silent for a moment. He wanted to argue with his son, to tell him to give up this silly phase of being gay, but when he saw the pure look of hope and the want for acceptance in his sons eyes he took a breath instead. "Congrats son." Lou smiled.

Joy filled cole. He knew how his dad felt about this stuff and had expected an argument. It looked like Lou was at least trying to understand.

"Thanks dad." Jay buried his face into Coles shoulder, smiling onto his shirt.

Lou looked between the two. Happy to see his son genuinely happy, a sight that was rare to the man.
