Sometimes, not often, a girl called Emily Slatter realises how different she is from other people. These differences are the exact reason that this book is being written about the girl. Emily Slatter, you have no clue of how different you are from the everyday person.

Emily lives in the small town of Brickwill, it's the kind of town where everyone knows everyone, and business is slow. Emily is currently sixteen years old and already has a body count. It was entirely her fault but if you ask her, she's innocent.

Around the age of eight, Emily realised she didn't like boys; she was gay. The girl was always ahead of what her year group should be doing and was moved up a year in school. At school, there was a boy, Alex, bullying Emily for being gay, she simply brought a knife to school and whilst doing their presentation, Emily stabbed Alex in the hand. She was later excluded from her class for two weeks as a punishment.

"Mother, I don't want to go to the party Steph is hosting," Emily groaned as she walked downstairs and stood in the hallway.

"Hush dear, just go. Give your mother and father some time alone together," Emily's mother responded.

Emily wore plain black converse, black jeans with tares in the knees and a black dress shirt with a red tie. Her skin was white as paper which contrasted her bouncy black hair that had neon green streaks to match her eyes which were also with green, the only difference being that her eyes had a thin ring of light blue around the outside.

The teenager sighed in response to her mother and left with her phone in her back pocket and her house keys in her front pocket, clipped onto her jeans with a metal clasp. Emily walked down the damp pavement with only her thoughts to keep her company. It was quite figuratively hell whenever Emily was left alone with her thoughts.

With only a few streets left to walk, Emily could already hear the loud and repetitive music of the high school party and sighed. Although muffled, Emily could tell that the song was something by Imagine Dragons.

Emily brushed her hair out of her eyes with one hand as she walked up to the house hosting the party. Steph, a girl with long, dark purple hair and brown eyes, was the one hosting the party, she was a girl in Emily's year group. The party was for everyone in Steph and Emily's year. Emily was welcomed into the house by Steph with a warm smile, to which Emily muttered a hello.

Whilst trying to drown out the sound of hormonal teenagers, Emily went to the back of the room and grabbed a can of coke from the refreshments table before walking out the back door onto the dark, damp porch. Emily sat on the edge of the porch and stared out into the large garden. Fairy lights were dangled around the fencing, dimly illuminating the garden.

"Leave me alone Alex!" shouted a female voice from the furthest corner of the garden.

"Come on babe, just one," Alex slurred to which Emily stood up and made her way slowly over to where the voices were coming from.

At a closer inspection, Emily could see blonde haired, green eyed Alex looming over a girl she had never seen before. Although dimly lit, Emily could see that the girl had long, wavy dirty-blonde hair and eyes as blue as a clear summer day. She had tan skin and white teeth. This stranger wore a replica of Keith's jacket from Voltron with a pale blue top and plain blue skinny-jeans with trainers. To Emily, this stranger, whoever she was, looked perfect.

Emily put her hand on Alex's shoulder "Leave the girl alone Winnington,"

"Slatter, um, I'm going to go inside now," Alex said, somewhat sobering up as he walked away.

"Heya," the mysterious stranger smiled. "Thanks for that,"

"It's no problem, Alex can be a huge jerk sometimes," Emily replied, letting the other girl leave the corner. "I'm Emily, by the way,"

"My name is Alice," Alice said holding her hand to be shaken which Emily took. Alice's hand was warm and soft as well as slightly on the smaller side, like a kitten.

"That's a beautiful name," Emily smiled.

"Emily is just as beautiful," the two girls walked over to the deck and sat down opposite one another.

"So, you are part of this year group of losers?" Emily pursed her lips once she finished speaking.

"Yeah, I joint this school today if you couldn't tell," Alice replied.

"That makes sense as to why I didn't recognise you, I wasn't in school today,"

"Probably," Alice chuckled.

"How are you liking it so far?"

"Today was pretty good, I'm in this photography class and today we had to pair up, as I didn't know anyone the teacher told me I'll work with the person that was absent today. That wouldn't happen to be you, would it?" Alice asked.

"Which photography class?" Emily replied.

"VK,"

"Yeah, you'll be working with me then,"

Alice stared at Emily for a moment before smiling widely "I like that idea,"

"Hey, Alice?" Emily wasn't looking at Alice as she spoke, instead she was looking at the grass.

"What is it?" Alice replied softly.

"Your name is as beautiful as you are," Emily looked at Alice slightly, only just realising what she had said.

"Well thank you, the same applies to you," Alice said, still smiling.

"Uh, what?" Emily arched a brow, very suddenly standing up.

"I said you're beautiful," Alice smiled.

"Uh... uh... I have to go," Emily muttered, walking away to go home.

Emily walked back down the dark streets letting the music get quieter and quieter as she walked further away from the location of the party. There was a slight pitter patter of rain on already damp pavement.

As Emily got closer to her house, she couldn't shake the feeling that she was being followed.
