It was another rainy Tuesday. England seemed to do that a lot, rain. Most people don't like the rain and would prefer to not get soaking wet for the rest of the day. Other people prefer the rain as it gives them an opportunity to clear their head outside without the streets being full of people.
Emily Slatter had rolled out of bed and got dressed into a dark green shirt, a light grey hoodie, a pair of jeans and the same converse as the night before. She had her rucksack hanging on one shoulder with her phone and keys in the front pocket of her hoodie as she walked to school, kicking the occasional puddle.
"Emily!" shouted a voice to which Emily pulled out an earphone and looked around.
"Oh, hey Alice." Emily half smiled.
Alice was wearing a blue shirt that had a science pun on it tucked into a flowy navy-blue skirt. She wore blue All-Stars shoes with knee high socks that were uneven. Alice's hair was flowing down around her shoulders as she carefully crossed the road to Emily.
"How are you today?" Alice smiled.
"Pretty good," Emily mumbled, not looking at Alice as she walked.
"Hey Alice!" a group of people said from in front of us.
"Thomas, Steph, Hannah, Serena. Hey." Alice smiled, pulling on Emily's sleeve as they walked up to the group.
"Who's your new friend?" Thomas, a tall pale boy with vibrant blue hair and an Australian accent, asked Alice.
"This is Emily, we met last night at Steph's party," Alice smiled, lightly holding Emily's hand.
"I'm saying this now, I ship it. You guys have to get together at some point." Hannah, a tall girl with short auburn hair that had blonde highlights, murmured from the back of the group.
"Don't get any ideas just yet," Emily sighed, letting go of Alice's hand and continuing to walk to school.
"Oh, come on, Em, lighten up." Alice said as the group started walking to catch up with Emily.
"Do not call me Em, I don't like you people. Leave me alone before I get an even bigger urge to crack your skulls open repeatedly on the concrete before turning myself into the police with a smile." Emily smirked before walking off quickly.
There were mutters behind her as Emily speed-walked away. Without a group of people to annoy her, Emily made it to school rather quickly. Once at school, Emily registered and went to the library where she sat down in front of a large brown leather sofa and pulled out a book, War and Peace, and began to read.
The library was quiet and peaceful until a class entered the library, most probably an English class. A teacher told them to each pick a book and sit down to read it. Emily took no notice of the class until one of the students from the class sat down next to her.
With a frown, Emily looked up at the person next to her to see Thomas.
"Hey there, Emily," Thomas smiled.
"Hello person I don't know the name of," Emily went back to reading her book.
"Thomas, my name is Thomas," he said.
"That's nice." Emily sighed sarcastically.
"So, what are you reading?"
"War and Peace."
"That's cool. I'm reading Wonder," Thomas smiled.
"Slatter, you realise that he is a dude, right?" Alex Winnington smirked, walking over to them.
"Winnington, I realised that. I'm not thick as bricks like some people." Emily smirked.
"Oh, come on Slatter. Who is you latest girlfriend, wait, you can't get one."
"Winnington, I am not in the mood for this petty conversation with you."
What many people don't realise is that Emily Slatter has anger issues, a lack of empathy and a lack of emotions. This is why Alex Winnington does not know when to stop talking.
"Em, I've heard about you parents, do they even care about you? I mean, the closest 'person' you have to you is your cat, Katie."
Emily put a fake smile on her face. "Shut up Alex."
"And your little friend, Thomas there, you do realise that he's a freak."
At that moment, Emily put a bookmark on the page she was on and stood up, she took a few steps towards Alex.
"It is one thing to talk negatively about me, I've learnt to ignore you, but when you start talking about people that are sat with me-" Emily's words were cut off when she fell to the floor.
Emily was on her knees, her hands supporting her as she coughed. She struggled to look around as her vision was blurry and when she could see, her vision was clouded with the face of her dead cousin. Alex started shouting, screaming and a crowd had gathered around the trio. Confused looks were shared between students, there was no one near Alex yet he was bleeding and pinned to the floor.
Alice entered the room, and everything stopped. I was as if she was a kill switch that had been used. The room had gone so quiet that a pin could be heard hitting the floor. Shortly after, the teacher of the English class sent Emily, Thomas and Alex to the principals' office where they sat outside.
The receptionist typed away as the three students sat in a row, Thomas glumly looking at his feet, Alex clutching his arm and Emily with Alice sat beside her trying to calm her down.
"Just breathe, Emily, just breathe." Alice muttered, kneeling down beside Emily with a hand on the dark-haired girls knee.
"What the fuck do you think that I'm doing?" Emily replied sarcastically.
"Come on, just concentrating on slowing your breathing and heart rate."
Emily only nodded, knowing that her fast heart beat was due to the slight touch of Alice. She would never admit it though, Alice was clearly heterosexual unlike Emily and they could never be girlfriends they way of which Emily wanted.
"Slatter, why do you have to be such a freak?" Alex said, glaring at her from the corner of his eye.
"Shut up, Winnington."
"Slatter, Lee, Winnington. The principal will see you in his office now." The receptionist said. The receptionist was an old wrinkly woman with straight grey hair, grey eyes, and always smelt of apricots. She also wore the colour yellow too often.
Alex, Emily and Thomas all stood up and entered the principal's .
