It was the middle of fall, colorful leaves swept over the ground like a blanket. The soft crunch from the leaves sung in large ears as a tail wagged low to the ground. A cat, a rather small one with f/c fur, bright e/c eyes and carrying a small stachel, wondered the autumn covered forest. A cool breeze swaying through the naked trees blew through the cat's fur as the sun began to set over the golden horizon. 'It'll be getting dark soon,' the cat thought to herself as she climbed into a near by tree, careful of the dead branches it was housing. The soft chirp of birds flying through orange and blue sky causing the cats ears to flick as she jumps over a gap to another tree, her claws grabbing hold of the branch as it swayed in the wind. She had to get home soon, she had a kit to take of after all.

The cat continued jumping from tree to tree as the bright orange and blue sky slowly turn pink and purple and soon to a pure black, the only light coming from the light reflecting off the lunar surface and the thousands of stars twinkling in the night sky. It took her a while until she returned to a burrow that lay under an old oak, hidden away in its ancient roots, offering protection for those who need it. The cat let out a soft mew, causing a small head to poke out from the burrow. A small vixen crawled out to greet her feline mother. The mother only purred as she crawled into the burrow, the young fox kit limping after her.

"What'd you catch today mama?" The vixen asked, looking towards the feline's old and torn satchel. The cat only gave a soft bit of laughter as she emptied it out, showing a couple mice and voles. The small fox's eye lit up as she grabbed hold of a mouse.

"Calm down Kitsun," the cat laughed as she grabbed a vole from the pile, plucking the fur off before she began eating. After the two finished they're meals the cat proceeded to give her daughter and herself a bath, licking the blood off the kits muzzle before licking herself clean. Once the baths finished the feline curled up, the vixen doing the same next to her mother, the to slowly being lulled to sleep by the forest peaceful sounds.

It was the middle of the night when the she-cat awoke to the sounds of whimpers from outside her burrow. The cat rose, crawling out and looking around before spotting a wolf limping and searching for something. The cat's ears pinned back as she noticed the multiple bite marks and scratches on the poor creature. She gave a light sigh before calling to the wolf, "Hey, d...do you need help?"

The wolf's ears perked up as he looked to the she-cat, "I could use some."

"Follow me then." The feline spoke softly, leading the wolf back to her burrow where she found the vixen still sleeping soundly. The wolf had a slightly hard time getting into the burrow, from the 'slight' size difference between the canine and feline. The wolf limped to the back of the burrow as the cat began to run her rough tongue across his wounds, causing him to whimper lightly. It wasn't until the cat was finished adorning his wounds that she noticed his hungry look towards the pile of prey in the corner of the burrow. The cat let of a soft giggle, "Would you like something to eat?"

"That would be nice." The wolf's tail wagged slightly at the thought of food as he watched the cat lift a plumb squirrel from the pile and drop it in front of him. The cat only watched as the wolf devoured the carcass, amazed at how quick he managed to eat. The wolf looked up at the cat and grinned as he licked the sticky blood off his maw, "Thanks. Kitten."

The cat snickered, "My name isn't Kitten, it's Y/n....though who might you be?"

The wolf laid his head down, his eyes not leaving Y/n's gaze, "The names' Fell."

The she-cat smiled, "Great to meet you then Fell." She purred, letting out a soft yawn before she went back to the vixen, curling around the kit.

Fell's ears perked, "What's with the fox?"

Y/n's eyes went from bright to dull soon after she heard the question, "Kitsun was born with a deformed leg, her parents abandoned her and I found her." Y/n's tail laid over the kits small body. Fell looked at the pair with pity evident in his eyes as he watched Y/n fall asleep, keeping her paws around the vixen. He couldn't help but feel sorry for both of them, his attention turned to the pile of prey....there wasn't much, only enough it last a few days at the least. Fell picked himself up before he laid beside the pair, laying his tail around them.

The sun was rising over the horizon, nearly over the hills, as Y/n's eyes fluttered open, a seemingly missing warmth causing her to wake. Fell was gone and Kitsun had her head poked outside, Y/n joined her daughter's side. As soon as she poked her head out she felt a strong, hard, freezing wind like the winds in Eastern Canada. A dark sheet of clouds covering the Northern sky told the mother a blizzard was to come, a bad one too. "Come on Kitsun, let's get back in the burrow before the storm starts." Y/n spoke, the young kit did as told, Y/n doing the same.

Only a few minutes later the storm began, strong, fierce winds mixed with larges amounts of snow proved to now be a good sign. Y/n grew worried, but not for herself or Kitsun, she found herself worried for Fell. What if he didn't find shelter before the storm, surely he would die... Y/n shook the thought off and sighed, joining her daughter in huddling close together for warmth.

The storm lasted for days, you were running out of food and the snow blocked your only exit. Though soon you heard the wind decease but you couldn't go out until the snow melted and who knows how long that would take. Another two days passed, you were now out of food and you still couldn't leave the burrow. You let out a sigh as you heard Kitsun's stomach growl, your's following soon after which distracted you from the noises outside. Gruff barking and growling and the sound of a couple voice followed with another gruff growl. The sound of snow being dugout filled your ears and your head perked up.

"Bud, what are you doing?" A voice asked, your heart sunk. Could Fell have ratted you out to hunters....? There's was another gruff, familiar bark and then you saw it...sunlight! You grabbed Kitsun's scruff and poked your head out only to see Fell, a bigger wolf, and two skeletons. You were so focused on them you hadn't realized you were shaking from the cold. Fell let out a huff as he grabbed you scruff. The taller skeleton snickered at the sight, he found it rather funny that a wolf was holding a cat and that cat was holding a fox kit. The smaller skeleton on the other side looked extremely worried.

"Brother we have to help them please! They obviously mean a lot to Fell!" The small skeleton conversed to the bigger skeleton. Your eyes swayed away from them as you looked to the bigger wolf who seemed more stern than Fell, it scared you out a bit but you barely noticed your fear, as all you could feel was the aching cold which kept you in shivers. You would've passed out because of starvation and the cold but you were woken up when Fell began carrying you somewhere, and the fact you would've dropped Kitsun though it was growing hard to stay awake. It wasn't until you felt Kitsun be taken from you that your eyes bolted opened, you looked to see the bigger wolf holding her and calmed down before passing out, unable to handle the environment any longer.

You woke to whining, fox kit whining, and warmth along with something wrapped around your figure. Your eyes opened slowly to see a bright orange and yellow light in front of you and some soft comfy thing laying under you. It took a bit to take in your surroundings, you noticed that Kitsun was whining while looking up at the bigger wolf who wore a smug grin, and you noticed Fell wrapped your form. Fell's eyes slowly opened as you suddenly pressed your head against his cheek, licking it gently causing a red hue to cover his face.

"Thank you so much...." You knew you were safe, you didn't know how but you knew.

"You had me in debt Kitten, I had to repay ya." Fell chuckles, his tail wagging softly. You only purred, giving his cheek another soft lick.

(It is 2:38 in the morning, I'm going to bed, this took three hours and I feel like passing out. Take this 1540-something word oneshot)
