My victory from my last heat was all over the news. In just a matter of about 12 hours, I was the new face of swimming. It felt good, but that's the problem... it's all too good to be true. I mean, four years ago, I was a JV swimmer who didn't even know how to execute a proper flip turn!
It was like an explosion... a mushroom cloud that enveloped you and you couldn't run fast enough to avoid it.
Nathan and I weren't official. He would slip homemade cardboard cards with glitter glue under the door to my room and he would insert love letters into my swim locker. Our (I wouldn't exactly call it a relationship because his status still read SINGLE :P) "condition" was very secretive, and he was very careful when and when to not hold my hand, as if we were two lesbians in love. Not that I have a problem with lesbians. some of my friends are, and my friend's moms are lesbian. They had a sperm donor from the sperm bank and... OFF TOPIC! WHY THE HECK AM I TELLING YOU THIS!!!??
haha weeeeeeeeeeeeell anyway, Adrian was very cautious. During press interviews that would nonchalantly pop up every now and then, he would hold my hand under the table but then let go once we walked out.
This got me to suspect him being a player, but for now, I couldn't really tell.

I was in his room one night, just playing Ultimate Allegiance (Alliance, I forgot, I really don't care) on the X-Box that he smuggled.
"I beat you, again," I told him for the third time.
"Heck yeah you did," he laughed. Then he looked at me with hungry eyes. I tried to ignore him, absentmindedly meddling with the game console.
"I don't want to rush things," he said slowly. "We've been together for a few days now, and I want to do things the old fashioned way... But with you..... I just know that you're the one."
I dropped the console and stared at him. "I love you too. And... I know that I'm not infatuated because I've never liked a guy before... ever. And with you.. I know that you're the one too."
He kissed me tenderly and his hands caressed my waists, his fingers molding into my delicate little curves.
I wrapped my arms around him and straddled him on the bed. He was such a gentleman, he let ME be on top. Then he pulled away gently and murmured,
"I.. I don't wanna force you to do anything... so don't feel pressured.."
I stopped and sighed.
"You... you're right..... well, I'm sorry, I guess I'm not as ready as I expected."
"I'm 27," he laughed. "And you're 19... we can get.. penalized for this."
I laughed and gave him one last kiss. Then I walked out of his room. My room was just two floors above his. I got in the elevator and saw a poster of me swimming my freestyle. Then underneath it read:
KAYLI REINER GOES FOR THE GOLD. DO YOU?
Oh wow. It was a VISA card advertisement. I laughed to myself. I really WAS an overnight success.
