You sat in your cell, trying to block out the fact that you were isolated and would probably never feel what is was like to sleep in a real bed, or have a normal amount rations, to have a normal teenage life.

All because you tried to save your mum from being floated. But who wouldn't do the same, your mother hadn't deserved to die, she didn't try to get pregnant again, it just happened. You heard from the guards that you had a stepmother now, that she was young, skinny and blonde.

Of course your father would move on so quickly. You wished that you'd heard it from him but he never visited you, of course he didn't visit you. The last time he saw you he was handing you over to the guard as you begged him to hide you, he couldn't have someone like you ruining his reputation.

Especially after you'd admitted to kissing a girl at a dance.

You managed to drift off to sleep with your broken thoughts and past still haunting you. You woke up to see another bed across the cell.

You moved to have a better look and realised that it was a girl that you'd never seen before, you could only see her back but it was enough for you to notice that she was sobbing, occasionally she would cry 'Bellamy' forlornly.

You'd heard of Bellamy Blake, he was one of the youngest members of the guard that there had ever been, your mum always used to joke that she wanted you to marry him.

Maybe this girl was one of his lovers?

You swung your legs off your bed and tip toed cautiously over to the other girl's bed, trying not to frighten her. You reached your hand out slowly and tapped her shoulder, she flinched, her body going into defensive mode making you realise she'd been through some dark shit.

"Hey, I'm sorry," You said softly, like you were speaking to a child, "I was just curious about the girl I'm gonna be sharing a cell with."

She rolled over and her eyes were wide and full of tears and you realised that she wasn't ready to speak about anything. You gave her a nod but something told you that you too were going to be friends.

You pulled her into a hug and she clung onto you for dear life. Sobbing all through the night.

And in that moment you became Octavia Blake's lifeline.
