A problem

"There is a problem." Jack told Quinn and Jo a few moments later standing outside the cabin they shared. Jo was temporarily bunking with Quinn while Arista stayed on the ship. Jo foolishly told the siren that she could have her rooms. Though Jack couldn't blame her, for Jack was moments away from making the offer herself.

Each woman was in a different stage of dress as they were changing their outfits to make it look like they were men. "What's the problem?" Quinn asked pulling on a pair of brown breeches.

"Arista insists on coming along."

"That's not good."

"I don't see a problem with that." Quinn and Jo said at the same time.

Quinn turned to Jo, "She eats men! You don't see a problem with taking her to a man buffet?"

"She says that her powers don't work on land." Jack offered.

"You believe her?"

Jack shrugged. "I can't trust myself when it comes to her. The attraction is too strong. Yet she isn't going to take no for an answer."

"If Arista wants to go, Arista gets to go." Jo stomped her booted foot as she reached for the second boot to put on.

"I don't like this." Quinn said looking into Jacks green eyes. "But if Arista goes, I have to insist that Jo stays here."

Jack nodded her head in agreement.

"Wait no. Why do I have to stay here?" Jo protested. "Jack wants the siren all for herself and your working with her to ensure it happens."

"That's not true." Quinn said.

"Why else would you leave me behind?"

"Because that thing has you under her spell and unlike Jack you're not even trying to fight it."

"Hey." Jack protested. "Don't call her a thing." Jack's heart raced, she felt the Siren's presence a moment before Arista popped her head in the door.

"Are we all set." Arista asked. Jo's face lit up at the sight of the newcomer.

"I don't think it's a good idea for you to go." Quinn said crossing her arms over her chest. "This is a reconnaissance mission which means that we need to be stealthy and fit in. You don't exactly blend in."

"I could dress like a man, just like you." Arista offered.

"That might be worse." Quinn said.

"How?" Jo demanded. Jack fought the urge to defend the Siren but like Jo she wondered about Quinn's meaning.

"Most of the men won't be able to resist the Siren. So, it will be awkward if she goes as a man and all the men in the room feel drawn to a fellow male pirate. At least if she stays a woman they wouldn't question the attraction even if they don't fully understand it."

"You have a point." Jack agreed. "But then if all the men are drawn to Arista, doesn't that put the mission in jeopardy?"

"The men won't be drawn to me. I promise. My siren abilities only work when I'm near water. It won't work on the land. I can dress up like a man and nobody will ever know the difference."

Somehow Jack doubted that.
