Turns out, Cheri was friends with Allison and Hailey. It was lunch next, so she introduced me to them.
'Hailey, Allison,' she said as we walked along the corridor to the field outside, 'this is Charlie, the school's newest smartass.'
'Hey!' I gasped to Cheri.
'It's true!'
'Just because I know some mathsy stuff?' I said, raising an eyebrow.
'You're, like, the only person that understood any of that,' said Cheri.
'Wow,' I said, barely believing it.
'Well, hey, Charlie,' said Hailey.
'Hey,' said Allison.
We went out to the field, and sat at the back of it. Hailey, Allison and Cheri all pulled out exercise books and a pen.
'English homework,' Allison explained, rolling her eyes. 'Due next lesson. We have to write a bunch of crap about apostrophes and why they're used. It's boring as hell - you're so lucky don't have to do it.'
'It can't be that hard,' I said. 'They're use to show possession or omission in a word, which makes sentences flow better and makes them easier to understand.'
Hailey raised an eyebrow. 'Alrighty, then,' she said, writing down what I had said.
I helped them with their homework through break, and we went off to English. The teacher had us sitting in a seating plan, and I was placed beside an extremely tall boy with a blond quiff and a lip ring.
'I'm Luke,' he said as I sat down.
'Charlie,' I replied.
'I know,' he said. 'I was in your French and Maths class.'
'Oh,' I said. 'Oh, wait - yeah, you were. Sorry, I'm not the best with names.' He was one of the boys in the group of boys who seemed uninterested on what the teachers had to say.
'I heard you sticking up to Lena,' he said. 'Pretty cool. No one sticks up to her.'
'Thanks, I guess,' I said. 'I can't see why she is so intimidating."
'Queen of the school,' said Luke. 'You don't mess with her.'
'Well, someone should've told her to dry up already.'
'What do you mean?'
I rolled my eyes. 'Piss off.'
