Rue jogged into the warehouse, aware that at any point a zombie could pop its disgusting head out the door and attack her. After thoroughly exploring the room she had wandered into, she went about going through the other doorframe and seeing what awaits.

Upon walking into the room, her eyes locked on a blonde boy shivering in the corner, his back facing Rue. She could see his shoulders shaking as he was clearly crying. It hurt to see someone younger than her sobbing because of what their world had become. She slowly approached him, making sure not to startle him by making any sudden noise.

She crouched down next to him and whispered "Are you alright?" Before placing a hand gently on his shoulder. His head darted up as he let out a shocked gasp, his brown eyes the size of saucers. Rue chuckled and gently rubbed his shoulder before standing up and extending a hand "You coming, kid?" She asked waiting to see if he was going to come with her.

He shakily took her hand and stood up, he didn't let go of Rue's hand, worried about becoming lost or bitten if they walked onward. She lead this boy back to the room she was originally in, and sat down before looking at him and saying "you're young, aren't you?"
"I-I I'm 18, so I a-am a adult"
"Well, that still makes me older than you, I'm 22," Rue replied a smirk appearing on her face, she had already become fond of this boy.
"W-who are you?"
"My name's Rue, and you are...?"
"Newt, my name's Newt,"

Rue chuckled she had already thought of so many nicknames she could call Newt. 'Salamander' immediately flickered into her mind.
"Imma call you Salamander," She said before doing comedic finger guns.

"You......you're so calm for someone in a zombie apocalypse,"
Rue tended to make jokes when she was uncomfortable or trying not to remember something. Hearing someone say that made something snap.

"Yeah, well, Salamander? You try shooting your parents whilst they're turning into a zombie, you learn not to wear you emotions on your sleeve,"

"Sorry, I didn't mean to offend you, I can't imagine shooting anyone in my family," Newt muttered, clearly affected by the awkward tension in the air. Rue sensed this and shuffled so that she was behind him, she wrapped both arms snug round his waist and pulled him back so his back was leaning against her chest.

"Don't apologize, I can be harsh sometimes...."
