"How much longer? It feels like we've been walking for hours," another complaint sounded from behind Rue.

"That's because we have Salamander, now shut it, one more complaint and I'll feed you to one of the hoards,"
She snapped back, tired of hearing Newt complain. The trees shadowed overhead, the forest smell strong of wood and dew. Leaves fell down onto the grass, different shades of green covering the floor. The sun shone down on them, the only rays of happiness in days of dreary days filled with bloodshed and destruction.

Rue suddenly stopped walking and Newt bumped into her back
"What the-?" Rue covered his mouth with her hand and signalled for him to be quiet. Newt felt a sudden wave of panic, why did Rue stop? What if he had to defend himself? He didn't have a gun.

Rue suddenly yanked Newt into a bush and threw him on top of her lap as she hid behind it. Newt blushed and placed his head on her chest, trying not to ask what was going on? but that question was soon answered as he heard groans and shuffling feet from in front of the bush. Holding his breath, he sat as still as possible.

Rue peeked out from the bush, only to be met with the face of a zombie. She shrieked and, against her better judgement, she pushed away from the bush, causing Newt to fall and land on his back at her feet. In one fluid motion, the zombie pounced on Newt. He squeaked in surprise and kicked an punched randomly at anything that moved.  Rue stood there for a moment, not sure what to do before she switched to protective mode and tackled the zombie to the floor. She punched the thing repeatedly in the face, then she reached into her bag and pulled out her gun and shot the zombie in the head. Rue didn't stop, though, and kept punching it even though it was already dead.

Sitting up, Newt felt pain his head and, upon inspection, he had hit his head on the ground and cut it pretty deep. He could feel the blood slowly pour from the wound and groaned. "Rue, I think you can stop, I-I'm pretty sure it's dead," She turned round and finally stopped punching and picked up her gun. "Are you okay? You didn't get bitten, did you?" She asked, cupping his face. "I'm fine, part from the cut on my temple," Newt replied. Rue gingerly touched it and Newt winced, she pulled him into a hug. Surprised, he wrapped his arms around her shoulders and whispered "Why are you hugging me?" There was a brief moment of silence, the only sound was the wind whipping around them. "Because I was scared of losing the only person who I've met in 2 years," Rue finally replied.

".....You're not gonna lose me,"

"Promise?"

"Promise,"
