Chapter two: The two Rebels.

I was about have way home, my silent tears now starting to dry. It was honestly so disgusting. No matter which corner I turned I almost died from one of those men or women. And no matter which corner I turned, there were at least twenty dead bodies on each street and one inch wide streams of blood going into the sewers. And no matter which damn corner I turned, I couldn’t help feeling the anticipation of seeing Travis’s face on one of those bodies.

I reached for my bag strap, for another water bottle, but stopped when there was a sharp pain in my hand. I flinched and looked down to see a huge hole right in the middle of my palm.

I was taken aback in shock, so much that u bumped into Sam’s deli behind me, the red blue and green lights teasingly stayed flickering on and off as if haunting everyone. It was probably nine thirty, and it was still so hot I could die.

I couldn’t believe the huge hole in my hand that suddenly just appeared, and I didn’t even notice. I drowsily racked my brain for an answer and it then it clicked.

I grabbed the damn gun!

I mentally face palmed, but got an instant headache at the thought. I’m surprised I haven’t puked yet, it was a good idea not to eat because all the food in the fridge needed warming up. I was getting sick looking at my disgusting injury so I looked back ahead and continued walking.

I was a couple of meters from the steps and I was not on the verge of falling on my face, but the thought of Travis kept me going. I was acting like an older sister, I know, but I don’t know if either of us could live with the fact of knowing all close family is gone.

The universal black hole in my hand was starting to throb. I think it got infected when I touched my sweaty bookbag strap.

Oh god, the lights are off. Please Travis be okay! Please.

I struggled up the steps and when I was on the landing, it took me about three seconds to raise my hand, another four to contemplate and then I knocked, my arm dropping back to my side instantaneously. Grey started seeping in from the sides of my vision and I heard the sound of metal scraping together.

In a swift movement, the door was open and another gun was placed between my eyes. Crap. But then it was lowered and I saw Travis, looking as disheveled as ever, but looking badass with a rifle slung casually from his waist to the ground by the opposite side of his body

“Lea” his voice cracked and his face was blurring from my vision. Tears dripped from his disbelieving eyes, and I wanted to cry with him too. But sadly, I couldn’t as I fell on my knees, then dropped as the grey took over and quickly turned to black.
