tamaki did something he wouldn't be proud of.

he visited the doctor without [name].

it didn't sound too bad if he were to say that to someone else, but [name] always went to the doctor with tamaki when it concerned his hanahaki. it felt weird without her with him and he admittedly turned to speak with her after he left, not realizing she wasn't there.

but he wanted to give her the news on his own, not from the sort-of-stranger doctor that he always forgot the name of.

"i love you," tamaki whispered, trying the phrase out on his lips. he liked the way it sounded in his own voice, even though he didn't really like his voice. he was sure he would like it even more when he said it to [name].

she saw him before he saw her, surprising him by linking her arm with his. she spoke a quiet greeting and smiled softly.

"i went to the doctor's," he told her, avoiding eye contact. instead he directed his gaze at the pavement in front of their feet.

immediately, her face fell. "without me?"

silently, he nodded, reaching around to his back pocket. he pulled out a folded paper copy of the x-ray the doctor had given him.

he watched [name] unfold it and stare at the picture, puzzled. almost a minute passed before she looked up at him, her eyebrows knitted in confusion.

tamaki took a deep breath, squaring his shoulders and pretending they weren't shaking. "i love you," he said.

[name] looked back down at the x-ray. the realization dawned on her face and her face nearly split in two with how big she was smiling. she tackled him into a hug, dropping the paper.

it was an x-ray of someone's lungs. they were clear. no flowers.

and at the bottom, it said tamaki's name.
