Des' POV
I closed all the windows and turned off most of the lights. Tobias had already left and Mercy was packing food and water in her backpack. I ran down to the basement and unlocked the door. I sighed in relief, it's all still here.
Dad's guns, bullets, food supply, matches, knives, first aid kits, masks, even the hand gun I had designed for him, all of it was still here. I packed dad's maps, canned food and ration packs, four first aid kits, spare bullets, my laptop, my hacking gear, my modified cordless wireless wifi, and a picture of my parents, Mercy and I.
I stuffed it all in my bag, then got changed and just before I left I grabbed dad's gun and put on a mask as well as grabbing Mercy one. Who knows how this virus is passed on, it could be in the air for all I know.
"Mercy! We're going!" I yelled up at her. She came down in her school uniform.
"I'm ready," she said, her eyes were red behind her glasses and her knees and elbows were bruised. Must of fallen out of bed, I thought.
"Come here," I said gently as I picked her jumper off the table in the hall. "put this on, it'll be cold." She pulled it over her head before letting me tie her short hair into two low pigtails
Taking in a deep breath, I grabbed Mercy's hand and gripped dad's gun in the other. It was now or never. I opened the door just enough to peek out only to see no sign of the infected. We walked through the streets quietly and quickly, we needed to get to Star Co. Labs but it was still about two blocks away and Mercy was already tired. I quickly looked around and in a swift motion I hurriedly placed Mercy on my shoulders, where she slumped against my head and drifted off.
I kept walking until we finally reached the lab. I messaged Lila and snuck in soundlessly to see a hoard of walkers. Shit. I quickly ran up the stair case, careful not to make a sound or let Mercy fall and let out a sigh of relief when I got to the right level. But that relief was short lived because of my own stupidity, my phone went off warning the walkers of my presence. Their shrieks were deafening.
I took off down the halls holding onto Mercy's legs trying to keeping her steady as I raced around corners. I finally spotted what I was looking for, the lab Lila and I shared. I ran down the corridor as fast as I could, the shrieks following me. I started pounding on the door.
"LILA LET ME IN GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!!" I screamed, my heart threatening to burst out of my chest. The doors slid open just as those feral monsters turned the corner and I rushed in with the doors slamming shut behind me locking again.
"Sis? What's going on?" Mercy had woken up so I put her down. She blinked a few times before realising where we were. I then watched her walk off towards my desk to continue her sleep in my chair.
"Your here!" Lila exclaimed, making me jump.
"You better start explaining right now!"
