Chapter 1 | home

As I got off of my plane I took a deep breath.

Finally, I'm back in New Jersey.

I adjusted the strap to my carry on and began to walk towards the parking lot where I asked my mom to pick me up.

As I walked through many sections of the airport I kept thinking about how my mom would react to me being home, would she be excited? Overwhelmed? Will she cry? Or has it not been long enough?

Finally I reached the doors to the outside of the airport, I let out a breath I hadn't realized I was holding and walked outside.

I looked around for my moms car and when it caught my eye I watched as the driver door opened and my mom popped out and began to run over.

I smiled and ran over to her and hugged her tightly.

"Oh gray! It's been so long! I've missed you so much!" My mom cried as she held my shoulders and looked at me

I chuckled "I know, I've miss you too" I said with a huge smile as I hugged her once more

Once we were done saying our hellos I got into the car and we began to drive off.

"So how was it? Did you see anything cool?" My mom asked as she looked on the road only glancing over to me a few times

"It was amazing! The Amazon is beautiful! and we even found a few rare trees, I got some amazing samples from them! sadly I couldn't keep them" I said looking down at my hands and then back over to my mom

"That's wonderful! But did you ever shower while you were out there because boy do you stink!" My mom teased as she nudged my arm

"I'm in the jungle it's kinda hard to" I laughed

Once we arrived home I got to see my dad and my grandparents who all came over just to say hi, which was odd because I was only gone for a few months.

"When do you have to go back out there?" My grandma questioned

"Anytime they need more samples or they think something is going on that shouldn't" I said with a shrug

(Don't judge me I'm kinda making this up as I go)

"Oh alright, we'll go shower we need to go finish making supper, it's your favourite" my grandma said with a small wink at the end

I smiled and began to walk upstairs, I walked past my room and smiled as everything was just how I left it, I then continued my journey to the bathroom, I closed and locked the door behind me once inside.

Once I was finished getting dressed I began to walk back downstairs until I felt a buzz in my pocket.

I took out my phone to see a number calling me, I accepted the call and held the phone to my ear.

"Hello?" I answered

"Is this Grayson Bailey?" A man with a deep voice asked

"Yes, who is this?" I asked leaning against the railing of the stairs.

"I am dr garner at the Amazon labs, I have an offer of a life time for you" he spoke

"And what's that?" I asked

"If you go to this newly found, exotic piece of land and take samples for us we will give you millions upon millions" garner spoke

I lifted a brow "sounds simple, what's the catch?" I asked

"You have to come to a certain place to meet me, sign a few things and when you have the samples you need to find your own way back, we won't be assisting you on your journey back" he spoke

The whole thing sounded very sketchy but I was so intrigued by the fact it was a newly found piece of land and the amount of money I would get for simple samples, how couldn't I do this up?

"What time do I meet you and where?" I asked

"The bar on walls st in the city, at 7pm" the man said

He then suddenly hung up, I furrowed my brows as to why he seemed so creepy but shrugged it off and walked downstairs.

It's four right now so I'll have to start packing now and then start to go seeing I'm about two hours away from the city.

How am I supposed to tell my family this?

"Hey mom, when you are done can you meet me in the dinning room?" I asked hoping when I tell my mom she'll understand and be able to tell everyone

"Alright gray one second" My mom answered

I nodded and walked into the dining room hoping she won't be long

Suddenly my mom popped her head around the corner and walked in the room.

"Hey what's up honey?" My mom asked

"I have to go, on another research mission" I said sadly

My moms smile faded into a frown "what?" She asked

"I'm sorry, I won't be gone long, I was hoping you could tell everyone seeing I need to start packing and go?" I asked biting my lip

"No you have to tell them honey, come on I'll help you pack the second you tell them all" my mom said dragging me out of the room

After a super long time of telling everyone why I had to go they finally allowed me to go upstairs and get packed, my mom following.

"Alright you are all packed up" I my mom said as she finished zipping up my bag

"Thank you, and I'm sorry again" I said as I hugged her for the hundredth Time

"It's ok honey, I understand" she said pulling away from the hug and allowing me to go

I smiled and began to walk downstairs, I hugged everyone once more before getting in a taxi I had called and driving off.
