I woke up precisely an hour before I needed to leave. I walked into the bathroom and washed my face. I didn't take a shower, I took one the night before. I felt like I had to. After I was done, I walked back into my room and began getting dressed. My mother didn't prepare a breakfast, so once I was done getting dressed, I had made an egg over easy for myself.

My sister walked in while I was eating.

"You may be my sister, but nothing more." She said, trying to hurt my feelings.

"As to you to me." I said back with a grin.

I finished my breakfast, and put it in the sink. My parents rushed my sister and I out the door, into the car. The drive was silent, and once we got there, my mother looked back at both of us.

"Girls, we are very proud of you. No matter what decision you make." She followed with a smile.

My sister spoke.

"Good, because my result wasn't Erudite." She looked to me. "Charlotte, we're both going to Dauntless."

"Your result was Dauntless?" I asked happily. She nodded and hugged me.

"No!" My father scowled.

"Actually, yes." I said. Jane and I got out of the car, leaving our parents. They didn't follow us. They drove away.

"Wow." She said, making her hair go down. I forgot about how pretty she was. Pale skin, long brown hair, blue eyes.

"I know. That's the last time we'll see them too." I said. Jane let out a nervous laugh.

...

We all sat down, and the Ceremony started. A Candor lady gave a long speech about knowing where we belong, like what they did before the rebellion.

Then, the first name was called.

"Mary Ashton," Mary walked up to the bowls and cut her hand. She placed it over the Amity bowl. As a drop of blood went in, a tear came out.

"Good-bye, Mary.." I whispered.

"Amity!" The Candor lady said.

Minutes passed.

"Jane Weldrum," My sister looked at me and smiled. She stood up and walked down the steps. Jane took the knife and cut herself. She placed her hand over the Dauntless bowl, the hot coals.

"Dauntless!" The Candor lady said, and the Dauntless crowd cheered and yelled.

"Charlotte Weldrum," I stood up and began walking down the steps. My heart, beating fast. I took the knife and cut my hand. I placed it over the bowl of coals. The blood dropped onto the coals.

"Dauntless!" The Candor lady said, and the Dauntless faction cheered. I walked to my sister, being congratulated by Dauntless.

...

The Ceremony ended, and Dauntless ran out of the building. We were on the streets, heading towards the train area. Once we got there, everyone started climbing up on the metal beam of the train tracks. I looked at Jane and she shrugged. She and I began climbing up the beam as well. We reached the tracks, waiting. A train horn blew and everyone started running. Once the train came close, the Dauntless jumped on, opening the carts.

Jane was ahead of me. She jumped onto the last cart, and pulled in. I jumped on after her, doing the same. Once we were in, the doors shut. We looked around the cart, mainly starring out the window.

I glanced to my right, noticing the boy from yesterday, the Dauntless born. The boy who winked at me. He was talking with his friends, and there were a lot of them. I assumed he's a "popular" guy.

After a few minutes, a girl yelled through the carts.

"Get ready!" She said, and the doors opened.

We got to a roof top, and people began jumping. Jane stood up, eagerly. We jumped at the same time, Jane landed and began running to the group of initiates. I hung on the building, struggling to get up. I glanced down, hundreds of feet separated myself and the ground.

Seconds pasted, and the Dauntless born boy noticed me after he jumped, and jogged over to me. My arms felt like giving up, but the boy brought me up.

"You okay?" He asked. I nodded.

"Good." He said, and ran back to his friends. I took deep breaths and started to the crowd.

Tato stood in front of the crowd.

"Hey, I'm Tato, a Leader here. To get to Dauntless, jump down here." He wasn't very enthusiastic.

"Won't we splat at the bottom?" A Candor girl asked.

"Your choice to find out." He said. "Who's gonna be first?" He asked.

Without thinking, I spoke.

"Me,"
