I decide to take a walk through the small forest outside my house. It's kind of therapeutic, considering my lack of friends. The same trees every day made me appreciate smaller differences, like the leaves that used to block a path I wanted to explore have all fallen off the tree, leaving me access to a new route to explore.
Deeper into the forest is where I notice things that you dont usually find in a forest. An odd shadow behind a tree and you can't tell why it has formed like this, animals have ceased to make noise, and the wind whistles through the trees, almost melodically. A tune that sounds like a lullaby, caused by the placement of the trees. But oddly, the wind only seems to blow in one direction out here, never changing.
SNAP! An echoing crunch of a twig rattles throughout the forest. A small animal, I guessed.
SNAP! Again, but this time louder, closer. Rapidly, the snapping increased in volume, like a cheetah running through the woods, directly towards me.
SNAP SNAP SNAP SNAP! It stopped when I felt as if it were in the bushes next to me. I turned. Nothing was there, but I swear, when I turned away, I could see a twig suddenly snap in half with no warning or explanation. And just like that, it was silent again.
