After a few short exchanges, Hayes and Matthew left and we screamed not even two seconds after they shut the door not caring that they both heard us.
"What the fuck! You had already gotten a date with the new next-door neighbor?! You forgot to mention that before you left!" I yelled at the top of my lungs.
"What? Me?! What about you snuggling up with his roommate, little miss shy-zone!" She came back and it hit me, I was hanging out with a guy for the first time who wasn't on a forced double date..
"Hey, now I just invited him to watch a little AHS while you're making out with his roommate. And I've never been so quick to do something like that it was cool. And we weren't "SNUGGLING" he was on his side of the couch and I was on mine."
She was taken aback, "Oh! His side of the couch ok sis I see how it is." I swear Becky can get on my last nerves, "You know what I mean... it's not like... ugh! I hate you!"
We sat there for a second, "Alright so tell me all about it!" So she told me about dinner and how he took her to a baseball game, figures she loves baseball, and I mean she loves it. She told me how he tried to kiss her, but she was too nervous so she chickened out. "Lame where's the scandal, boo ruined the whole story Bec." I teased her, as she threw a pillow into my face.
"Whatever, now tell me all about YOUR actual scandalous night." So I explained every detail since the beginning of my courageousness and whatnot until Becca barged into the apartment with her tall mysterious man. I had a new feeling in the pit of my stomach, it felt like I was never meant to be the shy one, and that something was breaking away from me and it felt good.
After laughing so hard at each other for all the confusion that had occurred we had decided that we both should go to bed. There was a lot on our minds and I couldn't sleep, I knew I had to be up soon for work, but I didn't care I let every thought of the last few hours replay in my head, the way the TV screen lit up his face, and how he slowly would move closer to me, I even shared my beloved popcorn with him. I may be a bit delulu, but I enjoyed every moment of his presence, and I think he enjoyed mine.
I woke up to the smell of coffee and headed straight to the kitchen even though I was exhausted. "Smells amazing!" I said in the best cheery morning voice I could make. "Thanks," she replied, "I have a long day, I'm going to the gym and then Matthew and I are going to go out to lunch, and that interview, oh my goodness, I'm so nervous." She said, her face had turned red because of her date later in the day. "Oh man, I hope it goes well, but I'm going to get ready for work because I have to fill up my single life, ya know how it is," I said as a joke, but lowkey it had some truth to it. "What about that guy that came over last night? You should try talking to him." I considered this, a lot, "I don't know, I'm too busy plus it was a one-night kind of thing." Shrugging it off and heading to the bathroom, "Don't make yourself sound like a whore, and You never can be too busy for potential love!" She shouted from the kitchen island, "Thanks for the advice, I'm sure I'll use it!" I said in a sarcastic tone that made her laugh.
I got ready in exactly 25 minutes which is usual, I work at a local shoe store in the nearest mall, and it's pretty exciting, I get a lot of discounts. Just kidding, it's pretty lame, just a lot of teenagers come in to look at the newest Jordans or Adidas, but nobody ever really buys anything. I left the apartment an hour early so I could head to Starbucks for a quick iced mocha latte. I tripped out the door and everything fell out of my purse. "Great," I said into the shag carpet. I stood up shaking off some lint and dirt from the ground,
"That was quite a spill." I spun around to see Hayes leaning against his doorway, a navy blue shirt on, grey sweatpants, and the good old basic black vans. "Were you there the whole time?" I asked a little embarrassed, "Why yes I was," He responded bluntly, "My favorite part was the look on your face as you were falling." Some jerk.
"Well now that you've had your fun if you don't mind I have to head to work, and I need my coffee, so if you'll excuse me." He put his arm out and grabbed mine, not hard, but quite gently, "Hey I was just joking, I just came out to see what the loud thud was, I didn't mean to make you mad. I was actually on my way out to get coffee as well, I can buy yours to make it up to you for the awful sarcasm joke." Hmmmmmm... sounds okay, I suppose. Something seemed off about his sudden kindness, but I went against my better judgment. "Yes that's fine, I am pretty upset, and so are my hands and knees that hit the ground first."
We headed out in silence, I was unsure how to socialize or even start a conversation, last night was simple because we were watching a show but now I had no idea what to say. But sure enough, Hayes has something up his sleeve.
