Memories of a Past
School was out that day, but I still woke up at eight. I was too excited about taking advantage of the day off to try and sleep in. I ran to Rebecca's house full of glee. The cool spring breeze enveloped me like mother's gentle hugs as my legs pushed me forward. When I arrived, I picked up a few rocks and tossed them at her window. Shortly afterwards I saw her peering through the curtains, before opening the window. She knew why I was there. Her radiant smile shined down on me like the sun. We both ran to the park, ready to take on all that it had to offer. We stared at each recreation and made a game of it. Our job was to slay them like a boss battle of our favorite game. And so we went forward, swinging high on the swings. We slid down the slide several times. We took on the monkey bars over and over. Our mothers came to the park about an hour after we were there. They brought us a freshly baked pecan pie, ham sandwiches, and freshly squeezed orange juice. We all sat in the grass and enjoyed our picnic, as the sun slowly made its journey across the sky for its noon perch. It was a halcyon day I will never forget. I hope to share a moment like that should Rebecca and I have kids.
