*Friday*
The last bell of the day rings and I walk out of the classroom toward my locker to grab my books before meeting Carson at my car. When I reach my locker, I am met with Mac's smiling face. After the conversation in the closet four nights ago, I can't help but feel a stronger bond growing between us. Stolen glances and boisterous smiles; I don't know how to explain it, but I can't help but feel closer to Mac with every day that passes.
"Hey Mac. What's up?" As if on queue, his hand reaches up to his hair as he begins to speak.
"I brought you this," he reaches into his bag and retrieves his neatly folded jersey, "for the game tonight. You know, if you still wanted to wear it."
"Of course I still want to, Mac." I exclaim reassuring him and grasp the jersey. Our hands momentarily brush against each other and I feel a slight blush moving through my cheeks.
"I have to go meet Toph and head to the locker room, but I'll be looking for you in the stands." Mac says with a wink. Before he can walk away, I speak up.
"Since I won't see you before the game," I hesitantly stand up on my tiptoes and place a chaste kiss on his cheek, "for good luck." With flushed cheeks, Mac utters one last goodbye and heads in the direction of the locker room. After grabbing my books and putting them in my bag, I clutch his jersey and make my way to my car. I can't believe I just did that! I have no idea where that confidence came from. As I walk up to my car, Carson gives me a questioning look.
"What took you so long and why are you blushing so hard?" Carson smirks.
"Okay so don't freak." She waves her hands telling me to continue. "So Mac stopped by my locker to give me his jersey and before he walked away, I kissed him-"
"YOU KISSED HIM?"
"-on the cheek dude let me finish!" She narrowed her eyes at me.
"Well that's less exciting." she states in a dull tone.
"Okay, I understand it's less exciting but I don't know where it came from! I don't do stuff like that! That's not me!" A smirk begins to form across her perfectly poised pink lips.
"Are you saying what I think you're saying?" She questions and I cover my face with my hands. I peek out between my fingers keeping my face covered.
"I think, I maybe, might possibly, kind of like Mac." She squeals in excitement and rushes into the car. I open the driver side door and sit down.
"Come on Stella! Get a move on! We need to find the perfect outfit to pair with that jersey. You have someone to impress tonight." She winks at me and I begin the drive to my house. After the short drive, we arrive and she goes to work.
"So, we're gonna opt for simple but cute." She states throwing clothing in my direction. "Some leggings with a yellow stripe down the side, to match our school colors on that baggy jersey, and a black long sleeve for underneath so you don't get chilly." I put the clothes on, the jersey coming to just above my mid thigh pairing perfect with the leggings. Carson squeals with delight as I begin to speak.
"Carson, do you think he's really going to notice all the effort were putting into this?" I ask in disbelief.
"Who cares honestly. This is more for you." She states with a shrug. "Alright sit down, I'm doing your hair and makeup." She begins to put a simple makeup look on my face and puts my hair in a high pony. "Okay now throw on you converse and lets get ready to go." She demands and quickly throws on her outfit.
