Author's Note:

Ok, so this was a school project and we were given a bunch of things we had to include; so basically what I'm saying is, if this short story sucks - please blame my teacher. And yes, this is a short story, it had to be written in the fantasy genre, in past tense and we had a word limit - sucks right..?

Well... Enjoy and I hope it doesn't bore you too much :)

Paige and Ella Rose seemed to have the perfect life, which to some extent was true. Paige, sixteen, was tan and lean with fiery red hair that matched her personality, whereas her little sister Ella was more reserved, with pale blonde hair, blue eyes and extremely long legs. However, Paige rarely spent time with Ella, preferring to hangout with her own friends.

The one person who couldn't stand the Rose family was Kara Adams. In such a small town it was hard not to know your neighbors, so staying away from bullies was a challenge, especially one that lived next door. Kara never had anything that was even remotely close to perfect; she lived in a crumbling foster home with a poor foster mother and a temperamental bathroom. She'd never known what happened to her biological parents or why weird things happened when she touched water. She felt pressured living next door to the Roses for so many years like they were rubbing their perfectness in her face.

Kara made Ella's life a living hell.

Paige was pulled out of her year 10 History class after hearing her sister passed out and they were rushed to hospital. Ella was immediately sent in for testing after doctors notified her parents it wasn't just low blood pressure. Paige sat on a chair in the waiting room, the sickening antiseptic smell was hanging over them, the crisp whiteness of the walls and the bright yellow glare of the lights made her head pound. After what felt like hours, Paige's parents were called into what was now Ella's private ward; Paige heard her mother crying.

She pushed her way into the room and told was that her little sister at fourteen was diagnosed with a stage 4 brain tumor.
