MUTATION - Chapter 5

Back in cell block: Charlie, Glenn was restless, he didn't want those freaks to come back. He had heard all about "Xavier's School for Gifted Children" on the news, a collection of freaks of nature. It was abnormal and wrong.

"They should've been killed at birth. They should've been abortions!" He spoke angrily. "Gifted" made them sound special, like they should be loved like presents to the world. They got there own school, so they could meet other disgusting children like themselves and feel less alone. But that's all they'd ever be; alone and useless.

Carl was very intrigued by these new people. He hadn't meant a mutant (that's what his mum had called them) before. Daryl was scary enough. Carl remembered when he spoke to one, Scott, that was a normal name. He looked normal. Except from his glasses but overall he looked normal, spoke normal and acted normal. So how was he a mutant? His mum laughed when Carl asked if it was a lifestyle choice. Carl hoped they would come back, he wanted to learn more. He wanted more friends, he was getting bored by himself.

Kurt felt like they had been wondering around in circles for ages! His legs were starting to hurt and his fingers tingled from grazing the wall. His tail started to feel heavy from holding it up for so long to stop Scott from stepping on it. What was the point of this? If all four came out of this corridor alive the new people would see that they are able to fight and would probably kill them for being dangerous. Kurt hadn't walked this far in a long time. He wasn't allowed gym time like his cell mates incase he teleported away.

He could see the sparks fly from Peter's fast running and he suddenly felt more energised with hope, he had finally caught up!
"Scott! Ve found zhem!" He whisper yelled to the equally tired boy.

But when they crossed that corner they wished they came sooner.

Hershel slept a lot. It hurt to stay awake. It was so depressing to see everyone float around his cell and it was almost a little insulting to have everyone check for a fever every few minutes. He was stronger than that! He'd show them. Hershel was glad to find more people. He was willing to welcome them, the more the merrier after all!

He overheard talk from Rick about putting them to Walker Slaying duties or something. Hershel wanted to march up to Rick and tell him that these boys, no matter how strange, are still humans and should be a part of the group, not slaves. But he didn't, because it hurt to move.

"Fuck! fuck! fuck!" Peter cried as he ran in circles trying to find a way into the mass of "walkers" that bit into the writhing Wolverine. It was all his fault, if he had been more focussed then he would've noticed the zombie claw down his teacher's back. "Goddammit!" He shouted, but it didn't matter how loud he was, there was no distracting the predators from their food.

Wolverines screams were nothing like Peter had ever heard before. They pierced through him, each one like a pointy knife or acrylic nails on a blackboard. Seeing his friend, cell mate, teacher and protector being ripped apart by the undead. Peter couldn't take it, he slowed to a stop and clutched his head. The screams ripping through him. Peter dropped his sharpened pole and caught the attention of a few walkers that couldn't get into the middle of the mass to feed.

Peter didn't care. His mum was gone, his friends were dead, he had nothing left to lose. He fell on his knees and accepted his fate as a walker crawled over to him. Peter's fast paced mind noticed every detail about it. It's left eye was hanging out of its socket, it's skin was ashy grey with black splotches. It didn't have many teeth left so Peter's death was probably going to be painful. Peter was ready. He closed his eyes and listened to the silence before his death- the calm before the storm.

"PETER GET DOWN!"

Confused, peter fell back and opened his eyes to see a bright red beam cover the room three times like a lighthouse. It didn't take Peter long to put two and two together and recognise Scott's laser and Kurt's accent.
