Monday Morning, Arllington Heights High School

Sporting her comfy Monday attire, baggy printed pants with a loose blush tee and a statement necklace, Katia walked down the hallway with her two best friends Madi and Ellie. The three were practically inseparable, except for when Drew came around and took Ellie. Ever since Ellie started seriously dating, which was freshman year, Madi and Katia had gotten closer.

“Did you finish that essay that is due Tuesday?” Madi asked the group.

“Yeah, but I need to look over it tonight again,” Katia replied.

“I haven’t even started it yet. I seriously had no time this weekend,” Ellie said, exasperated.

Madi added, “El you can’t procrastinate like this all the time. Even though you are the master procrastinator.”

“So who's ready for so AP Chem today? Not me. So done with this topic,” complained Katia.

“Ugh, don’t we have a test Thursday?” Madi wondered.

“Yeah we do. I think we get the study guide today,” Ellie said.

“We’ll be gone for all of the review time because of the NHS Conference. Hopefully its not too hard,” Madi thought out loud.

“We can talk to Mrs. Till about it today. We should probably head to Chem now, the warning bell just rang,” Katia said with a rush in her voice. She then proceeded to speed walk to class with her friends both a step behind. As usual Drew stood by the door and Ellie broke off to go kiss him before class. He wasn’t in AP Chemistry with the girls, but he was in regular chemistry just a room down. For a second Katia glanced at Drew and Ellie, and quickly looked away when she saw them making out. She tried to picture herself in the position, but brushed it off. That kind of thing didn’t happen for Katia. Plus, she wasn’t the PDA type. I mean wouldn’t it be super weird if you teachers saw you kissing someone? Katia thought yes.

The bus to the NHS Conference left right after school that day, so by the end of the day all three girls were more than ready to leave.

Ellie couldn’t contain her excitement, “Two nights. Two whole days, and one half day. It is going to be epic.”

Madi was soon hypnotized by the atmosphere, “The seniors say they still talk to people they met here last year. We’re talking possible new best friends. It’s like a make your own friend express workshop.”

“Plus, everyone going lives in Illinois like us. So we’d never be too far away from them,” Ellie continued.

“I’m actually getting kind of excited for this guys! I hope you’re right!” Katia squeaked.

The bus made a rattling sound as it went over a large bump in the road. It shook the girls, who had been sleeping for about an hour now, awake.
