The cold seeping into my bones is comforting, the air around the mansion has the same unrelenting chill to it.
"We'll probably find some interesting stuff in here. The chill is taking the edge off the bond too. So that's a plus." I step toward the first window and look in at the wares. Shrunken heads. Cool.
"I still don't understand how you can be comfortable like this. At least zip your hoodie up Chrys. If not for yourself then for me. I don't really wanna wake up with a knife at my throat because you got sick." I roll my eyes and look away from the window to Hoody as I zip my jumper up.
"Happy? Lets take a look through the rest of this place. Or, you two can go wait in Diagon, I probably won't take too long."
"No, we're not leaving you alone in an environment that you're not the most familiar with. Diagon was an Exception, we were still close by you got dragged away by the wand guy and the door wouldn't open. Lets get this done, so we can all go home, you can probably come back at a later date with Jeff and Jack if you want." Hoody presses forward, pulling Masky by their joint hold of the trunk behind him. I hang back a moment and look through more of the shop windows. As I take a step to catch up with the boys a sign catches my interest.
"Borgin and Burkes? The hell kind of name... I guess its not any weirder than the others I've seen today. Still though. The fuck is a Borgin? The fuck is a Burke?" I roll my eyes and shake my head. I stuff the hand not holding a cage in my pocket, and look ahead for Masky and Hoody. I spot them looking in another store window having a discussion about whatever it is they see. I walk to them, looking through other windows as I pass. This place really isn't as interesting as I thought it would be. "What are you two gawking at?" I stand behind the trunk and stare into the window with them.
"We're trying to figure out what the hell these things make." Masky gestures to the pile of yellowish-white Bones. All too big to be human, most too big to be anything we've encountered before.
"It's possible to suggest it. And mean this in all seriousness. Dragon. That's my call. A dragon. Or some other fantabulous creature found mostly in myth and legend. That's my goddamned call. Because I sincerely doubt they'd have a pile of elephant bones lying around in the middle of a magical alley." I shrug and wave one hand while looking closer at the bones, I'm probably wrong on that assumption, doesn't look like there's any that'll form a wing structure. Masky doesn't know that though. Might just be an assorted pile.
Masky opens his mouth. And closes it promptly. And proceeds to perform a perfect imitation of a goldfish. Throw his left hand in the air and rubs the bridge of his nose. "We're all fools. Who the hell cares what it is." Hoody and I share a look and chuckle at him.
"You clearly do. Just admit it, you're annoyed that you didn't think of it first." I flash a cheeky grin full of teeth at him, adding a couple extra rows for a little spice.
"Shut up dork. God your so annoying. Can we go? This place really isn't that interesting."
I wanna keep looking but so far it seems like a bit of a dud. A little disappointing, really thought this place would have some sinister stuff. Can't always win. "You're probably right. Let's head to the safe house. I wanna get home, read some of this material." I turn and almost fall back onto the trunk. Beady black eyes stare down at me. A bushy bearded giant of a man tilts his head at us, looking over our group with an unclear expression.
"What're you lot doin down 'ere? 'Specially without a guardian? I 'don think this is where your suppos' ta be. Let's get you lot back ta Diagon 'ey?" He shoos us in front of him like lambs. The three of us look at each other, confused as all hell to what's going on, but walking anyway. He brings us back to where the alleys meet and nods at us. "Right. Best be getting back ta me business. You lot stay safe. Can't have younguns like yerselves gettin' in trouble now can we?" The giant steps back into the alley and rushes off.
