Magic spells are difficult to achieve without the proper amount of magical energy. Without a strong connection to my people and my land, I was unable to do much other than see what magical creatures were out there.

My, my. I had seen some interesting specimens of the magical kingdom on my travels, too. I hadn't told anyone, knowing full well it would just irritate them, but a group of fairies had been following us for quite some time after the facility in the Rocky Mountains was infiltrated.

A huge surprise came to me within my first few hours inside the aptly named city of Haven. I'd already been checked by a doctor and received treatment for my injuries, so I was free to walk around and see what my eyes could take in. The nature inside the walls was quite pretty, if I did say so myself. The trees clustered in groves and their branches hung low enough for children to climb upon.

I was briefly looking at a group of such trees when a flickering shadow in my periphery caught my attention. 'Was that...?' I thought, relaxing my muscles as much as possible so I could see what was just barely shrouded by the veil between this world and the ones that tended to remain hidden from common eyes.

Four shapes began to take a more solid form. They were humanoid, at least, but coloured a pale gray. 'So, there are ghosts here' I thought a bit morosely. 'It would make perfect sense, of course.'

But I wasn't done yet. There was still more to discover, and I was curious. I focused on my Sight abilities and concentrated on the four people who had once walked this earth as flesh and blood people.

I stumbled back a step when the veil was completely parted and I could discern their identities.

There were two young men and two young women, split into heterosexual pairs. One pair was running around and through a cluster of trees energetically, laughing silently to my ears and stealing rogue kisses from each other every so often.

The other couple was lying on the grass and looking up at the sky amiably. The fingers of one hand each were entwined between them, and they appeared to be talking to one another. The blissful smiles on their faces made me want to smile as well.

As I continued watching, Alice hid behind a tree and waited for Matthew to come around one side to find her. However, she had anticipated his actions incorrectly and didn't see him coming around the side where she wasn't looking. She seemed to shriek with delight when he picked her up by the waist and twirled her around before setting her down so they faced each other. They embraced and kissed yet again, looking like the happiest couple in the world.

In the grass, Lukas sat up and used both hands to unclasp his cross barrette. Mary rose to a sitting position, looking at him quizzically. Her eyebrows rose when he offered it to her, and she shook her head quickly. Lukas didn't really give her a choice as he clipped it into place in her hair and leaned back to survey his handiwork. He smiled gently and nodded while Mary blushed lightly and put her hand up to her head to brush her fingertips against the clip.

"Are you sure?" I was almost certain she asked him. My lip-reading may have been off, but logically it seemed like the right thing for her to say.

Lukas nodded. "It looks better on you," he stated. It was aggravating to not hear their words aloud, but it was all I could do to just see them clearly.

Mary's blush darkened, or at least it looked like it did. It was so difficult to tell when she was in black and white.

Suddenly, Alice slid into a spot on the grass next to Mary like a football player slides to intercept the ball from an opposing player. She struck a pose she would have called "fabulous" and waved to the other two as Matthew sat down on Alice's other side.

Mary beamed at her and waved back while Lukas also waved. The four of them laid on their backs then and looked up at the sky, watching the clouds high above.

'They probably can't see me' I thought, and I moved from my place just a little bit.

That's when Mary sat up quickly and looked right at me. She nudged Lukas and Alice, the latter of which roused Matthew from his supine position. As one, they all waved at me and smiled.

I was utterly flabbergasted. They knew I was there and knew I could see them, too! I lifted a hand and slowly returned the gesture, a soft smile on my face.

Maybe things would be okay after all. They all looked happy, especially now that they were together again.

Now all we had to do was cure this deadly virus... but that would come with time and time alone.

For now, I'll enjoy what I have and not take any of it for granted.

"What're you waving at, Iggy?" Alfred asked as he jogged up and stopped at my side. I looked over at him, the smile still on my face. "Magical friends, or something?"

I couldn't help glancing back at the four ghosts I'd known in life. Alice grinned mischievously and nodded for me to answer.

"Yeah... Or something," I answered.

Omake~

"Hey, Prussia! You know what's for dinner, man?" America asked as he walked with the crowd of countries toward the mess hall that night.

"Vhat day is it?" Prussia asked in return.

"Uhm... Thursday, I think?" America replied.

"Ah. Zhen it's hamburgers," Prussia answered.

America gaped. He stared. He couldn't take another step. Then he opened his mouth.

"YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"
