He took a another look at E. "I think you look like a girl!" He exclaimed. E and Charlie laughed. "We better get going," he said. They said goodbye to Violet and made their way down to the restaurant, not too far away from Pierce. They entered the Italian restaurant in amazement. The restaurant was filled with fairy lights hanging from the walls and ceiling. There was a dance floor in the middle of everything. The people were really friendly and welcoming. They met Charlie's parents and sat down at the table. Gabriel didn't seem to notice that E was E. Their appetizers appeared and conversation was starting up.
"Charlie I'm glad you could find a date so last minuet!" His father exclaimed. Charlie started to blush, but went along with it anyway.
"Yes, I'm glad E agreed to go with me," he said.
"This is E?" He asked. Axel and Penelope's ears perked up. Charlie nodded his head. "Well, glad you could come!" He claimed. E shot him a fake smile. The band started to play again in he distance. The rest of the night continued in small talk. No big questions to E. Well... except for one.
"So, E what do your parents do for a living?" Charlie's dad wondered. E took a sip of her water before answering.
"Well, actually, my parents passed away when I was little. But my uncle used to repair the clocks at King's Cross," she answered without a problem. Charlie's mum gasped and Charlie's dad looked sorry for her.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know," he apologized.
"Oh it's alright. I didn't know them that well anyway," she assured. She suddenly felt self-conscious about herself, especially her scar. Which unfortunately for her was the next question.
"What happened to your eye?" Charlie's dad asked.
"Oh, I was attacked when I was little," she answered bluntly. Charlie's parents gasped and had a conversation that he only half listened to. Gabriel hadn't said a word about or to E. Which was a blessing from Heaven. Axel and Penelope were quiet all throughout dinner, except for some whispers once in a while. The dancefloor was bare, but not for much longer, when Axel took E's hand by surprise and lead her to the floor. Charlie laughed at E trying to nail each move like Axel was. Suddenly, Charlie felt a soft hand take his and he was being pulled by Penelope to the floor next to Axel and E.
Oh, what a night this was going to be! Charlie thought.
Axel was teaching E a new dance, while Penelope was teaching Charlie a slow one. "Keep your head up!" She ordered. Charlie followed her command and lifter his head, so his bottle green eyes met her ice blue ones. "Good," she complemented with a smile. Charlie got glimpses of E and Axel. And when he did it was usually E and Axel laughing at a mess up or Axel smiling at her. It sorta made him jealous. He didn't like E more than a friend, but yet, there was something that irritated him about her dancing with Axel. "Hey." He was snapped out of his thoughts. "Whatcha thinking about?" Penelope asked. Charlie shrugged.
"Stuff," he said. Penelope raised her eyebrows.
"Just 'stuff'? Because it looked like you were looking at E."
Charlie scoffed.
"I don't like her." He said in a matter-of-fact tone. Penelope stopped the dance to cross her arms and get a real answer.
"Charlie, now that I've seen E, Clairey can't match up. You like her and even if you don't want to admit it, we all know it. Even Gabriel," she said. Charlie didn't believe one word.
"Why does everyone think I like her?" He thought out loud.
"Well, for one thing, you keep starting at her. You defend her like an overprotective boyfriend. If anyone touches her, you'll get angry," she said. And it was all true. ."I see your point," he mumbled. Penelope flashed her victory smile.
"See. I told you that you liked her." The night was coming to a close, when the guitar player announced the last song of the night. "Go find her," Penelope whispered to him. Charlie had no choice than to find E and dance with her. He looked around the restaurant and found her sitting at the table.
"Hey," he greeted.
"Hi," E returned. Charlie took a seat next to E.
"Wanna go dance?" He asked sheepishly.
"Sure," she answered. He took her hand and lead her to the floor. The song that was playing was a slow one. Good thing Charlie practiced. Charlie faced E and wrapped one hand around her waist and held her hand out. E put one hand on Charlie's shoulder and he held her other one. They started to dance, but slowly, Charlie wasn't used to leading. After a few moments if silence, E smiled at the floor. Now, this wasn't any smile. Like, a smile she gave during a laugh. This was a true genuine smile. And it suit her well.
"What are you smiling about?" He asked.
"Tonight." Now, that confused Charlie.
"What about tonight?" E sighed.
"Just being here. With your family. They're very welcoming," she approved. Now Charlie smiled.
"What?" She asked.
"You are the last person I'd ever think to say that," he answered.
"Well, your lucky to have one. And they're not so bad." Charlie smirked and met E's eyes. The world seemed to stop for a while.
"What's the matter?" Charlie tilted his head.
"Your eyes confuse me," Charlie mused. E felt a blush creep up her face.
"What do you mean?" She tilted her head with curiosity.
"When I first met you they were green, blue, and silver. Then they were a dark blue. Now they're... a bluish-green," he croaked. E giggled at Charlie. Her expression changed and was about to say something to Charlie, when the music stopped. They both strapped back awkwardly mumbling something to each other. Charlie was rubbing the back of his head and E was holding her arm. Charlie was about to apologize when his Dad came up and lead the two from the floor, to outside of the restaurant. They all said their goodbyes and went home. The walk to Peirce wasn't very far, only twenty minutes at least. Charlie and E went in silence, not wanting to say anything to the other. They finally came to E's door. She took out her key and opened the door slightly.
"Thanks for tonight. It was fun," she said.
"Thanks for coming," he replied. E laughed nervously. They stood there for a moment, not saying anything at all. Before Charlie knew what he was doing, he leaned closer to the beautiful girl in front of him. His face was only millimeters away from hers. E's eyes were doe like and her breath was shaky as Charlie tucked a piece of red hair behind E's left ear. Charlie ignored her babbling about what he was about to do. She only stopped when a pair of warm lips were on hers. She blushed a deep red. But, then Charlie pulled away and started to his room. E closed the door and ran to her room.
What just happened?
