Large Waves of years 6 and younger swiftly made their way out the grand hall doors, quietly muttering to each other about everything. Once all of the different aged pupils had made their way out only few were left sitting at the varied tables;
Hermione, Harry, Ron, Ginny,Luna,Pansy,Draco,Blaise, Neville and Hannah
It was just a small amount but not all wanted to return to hogwarts after the war, Some were surprised at the small amount of people and some knew it was an understandable amount. All having confused expressions still stained hard on their faces they moved their soft gazes and watched as the teacher,who usually strides with so much confidence, hesitantly shifted from her oak seat to the dark old reading stand at the front of the slightly lifted stage.
"First of all I would like to thank all of those that have joined us this year..." McGonagall paused looking out at the few scattered students,with guilt, over the top rim of her small silver coloured glasses before speaking again
"But enough of that. I'm sure you're all wondering what this is about" there were a few 'hmms' and slight nods coming from the few on the different tables
"Well,I wanted to put this is the returning letter but couldn't, there is a new law made by the Ministry. The Marriage law. This law is for all witches and wizards in seventh year in all schools. The law gets paired up with your soulmate for life,which you have to
Marry and stay with. You will continue your studies but a new class will be added, the couples class, as in the next seventh months you and your partner must be married and at least a year after that with child" students abruptly stood out of their seats. shouts of protest were echoing through the large hall. Questions and arguing coming from all ten of the students
"SILENT" McGonagalls voice boomed through the large room before all, clearly terrified of her sudden burst, hesitantly sat back down and silenced themselves looking back at the headmistress
"Now please let me finish. Of course you have a choice of whether or not you will partake in this law. But if you don't your magic will be stripped, you will be obliviated and you and your family will be sent to live in the muggle world never to return" she finished as she silently sighed when the hall once again erupted in angry shouts consisting of the same things; 'they can't do that!' And 'how could this happen!?'
Eventually the students slowly calmed down as they knew they would get no-where with their argument. Tears were streaming down some of their faces with the thought of their life plans being taken from them. As the students finally, yet hesitantly, finished with their outburst Neville Longbottoms voice could be clearly heard as he proudly stood from his seat,head held high, tempestuously asking
"Why would they make this law professor?"
Looking over at the Gryffindor boy McGonagall calmly and softly answered as she knew all were thinking the same question
"After the...the war the wizarding worlds population decreased and has since continued. And the Ministry thought this as the only solution"
"How do we find out our apparent 'soulmates' as you said" Pansy Parkinsons sharp voice could now be heard asking the professor
"They have already been chosen thanks to a new type of magic able to find a persons soulmate" she replied now turning her gaze over to the girl
"Well when exactly do we find them out?" Pansy replied back in a slightly agitated tone clearly unimpressed with what she was hearing. McGonagall ignored her tone of voice
"As soon as you stop asking me questions"
Pansy quietly yet violently huffed as she crossed her arms
"Right, now once you and your partner are called you are to join them to the front of the hall and then I will send you to you're new apartments as you will not be sleeping in your dorms. Your stuff has already been taken over there and your keys to the apartment will be given as you are leaving" a few small nods were given as the students had clearly given up,nobody wanted to loose their magic.
"Okay the first couple is...Harry Potter"
Harry closed his eyes and bit his lip nervously as Ginny held his arm in one of her tightest grips,he and Ginny had started dating after the war and it had gotten serious.
"And Ginny Weasley" McGonagall looked at the two as they instantly sprang into each-others arms a small squeal coming from Ginny,her face still soaked from
Her waterfalls of tears, as they made their way up to the front hand in hand McGonagall slightly smiling at the couple.
"Blaise Zabini and Luna Lovegood" the two awkwardly made their way to the front Blaise slightly blushing and Luna keeping her usual dazed look as if unfazed by everything happening to them
"Neville Longbottom and Hannah Abbott"
Once again the two making their way up, Hannah being slightly joyful with her partner as everyone
Knew she had the biggest crush on Neville.
"Draco Malfoy..."
dracos heart sped up he knew there were only twomore girls left, Pansy and Hermione, biting his lip slowly he waited for his fate
"And Hermione Granger" McGonagall looked up as she saw the two,shock faced,get out of their seats. An agitated huff heard coming from a certain red headed boy still in his seat. When the two made their way,slowly, up to the front by the side of the other couples the last two hesitantly got out of their seats Draco slowly leaned in slightly to whisper to Hermione
"You okay?"
Continuing to look forward,holding in her tears, she simply and unemotionally breathed out
"No"
Before Draco could say anything else McGonagalls voice was heard echoing the hall again as 5 golden envelopes shined in the dimmed candle light with 2 slight,key sized, bumps seen swiftly making their way to each couple waiting for one to take.
"These are the keys to your new apartments. If one of you from each couple will please take it and then I will lead you to your new places"
