Chapter 4

Walking up the dirt road with my Ma and Pa to the governess cottage I notice Peter and his mother standing along the way. They seemed to be in a heated argument with the way his mother kept throwing her arms around in the air like a man woman. “Peter, you know the law. You can’t just set claim on Laiya till after the Blood Moon.”

“Mother, that’s the problem. I have a feeling she won’t be coming back, she so set on finding her cousin and fighting the beast that I know if I don’t do something I’ll lose her.” He threw back at her. “She belongs to me and no one or thing will take her from me. Even if I have to enter that forest to make sure she save.”

“Peter!” my Pa voice bomb over to them as we walked closer. “Your mother right, you have no claim to my daughter as of right now. Not till after the Blood Moon will you be able to have my daughter hands, if she wishes it.” That’s when everyone looked over at me making me feel slightly nervous. I couldn’t break my best friend’s heart, by telling him I didn’t feel the same way, or how he was right about me not returning till I found Penelope.

“Can we please not talk about this right now?” I asked has I looked around at the people around me. “We’re about to go eat with the governess family and I rather not have them think something is going on with us. We know the law and there will be no more talk of marriage till after the Blood Moon.” I didn’t wait for them to answer as I walked off on my own to the cottage that stood at the end of the trail.

Walking over the bridge a paused in the middle taking in what was supposed to be a cottage looked to be more of a mine castle in the middle of the woods. I stood there taking in the gray stone building with its large open windows letting the afternoon sun setting shine inside. There was smoke coming from one side of the building notifying me there had to be a fire going on somewhere inside. With the sun setting around us made it have a ghostly appearance, plus it didn’t help that we were in the Blood Forest. To know something like this was hind within it made me wonder what else was could be within this woods, beside the beast.

“Laiya, don’t walk away from me. You don’t know the danger that could be in the forest.” I heard Peter voice say from behind me. When I felt his hand go along the small of my back, I pulled away from him to turn and face him.

“Did you know this place exist?” I asked, pointing to the building behind me. He just shook his head, looking down. “What else is in the forest I’m unaware of?”

“Laiya, there all kinds of homes within the forest. Most are vacant due to the beast beside your grandmother and this one, which is only occupied during the Blood Moon.” He answered, looking behind us to see our parents walking up to the bridge. With the look on their faces you could tell they didn’t know that this place existed either. “Laiya I know your mad at me, but please don’t let this get between us. I am just trying to keep you safe.”

“I know Peter, but you need to stop with this possesses you have over me. My father right, you have no claim over me at the moment. Let’s just forget this all happen and just enjoy the time we have till the Blood Moon comes.” I reason with him about the time my father put his arm around me pulling me to him.

“You kids working out your little problem before we go have dinner with the devil and his spawn.” He asked, making it sound like he was about to walk into the pits of hell with the venom in his voice. We looked at each other and shook our heads, knowing that conversation wasn’t over. “Good now let’s get this over with, so we can get out of this forest, it’s not safe even if the full moon isn’t out.” Then he turns me around pulling me along with him to a large wooden door knocking on the door.
