Chapter 19

I jumped out of my chair, still barely comprehending that my daddy was standing right in front of me. Before he could say another word, I was in his arms taking in his scent. He smelled exactly the same, coffee and old spice. The tears started to pour now. Uncontrollable sobs wracked my body, soaking through his shirt. His hand rubbed my back letting me cry till I was good and done. We must have stood like that for ten minutes before I was finally able to come to a slow stream of tears. I looked up to see my dad smiling down at me like he would when I would come home from a bad day of school and need someone to cry to.

“I’ve missed you daddy.” My voice was thick with sadness.

“I know baby. I’ve missed you too.” We sat down at our table and the imaginary waiter came to take my dad’s order. “I gotta say, these dream waiters are way better that real ones. Usually I would have taken then twenty minutes to get back over here to take my order.”

I smiled at my father’s joke. He always hated waiters and would rather go through a drive-thru than sit down at a fancy restaurant. It suddenly occurred to me that, I would soon have to wake up from this dream and there was a good chance I would never see him again. I wondered how I would be able to survive that heartache a second time when I woke up.

“Earth to Izzy,” he said breaking into my thoughts. Here I was worrying about losing him when I needed to cherish the time I had.

“Sorry daddy. I was just worrying for no reason. So how are you able to contact me?” My curiosity was burning. Maybe if he could do it once, I could do it again.

“I don’t know sweet heart. All I know is that I felt you calling for me more so than usual, then all of the sudden I was standing outside this restaurant and I knew you would be here.” My heart dropped slightly.

“What do you mean I was calling for you more than usual?”

“Well, usually it’s just a small feeling I get when you’re thinking about me, but this time it was like you were pulling my to you. My body might be gone, but my soul is very much alive and since you have immortal blood you are able to contact those who haven’t yet passed over yet.” My heart dropped even further. Although it was great I could see my father now, but eventually he would leave me forever.

“How long have you known what I was?” Dad looked down at his hands confirming my suspicions.

“I’ve known ever since your mother brought you to me as a baby. When we meet, she had no intentions of telling me who she was, but eventually we fell in love and she told me everything. I hoped that you would never show any signs of being a god, but once you started having problems at school, I knew. I thought that maybe that maybe you would only manifest some of your mother’s powers, then you turned eighteen and I noticed immediately when all the men would star as if in love with you that you would be exactly like your mother. “

His comment hurt me. I didn’t want to be anything like my mother and so far I had done exactly that. I made sure than lust was an emotion I never invoked especially after everything that happened with Andreas.

“I am nothing like her.” Rage burned in my voice and my dad looked at me with concern.

“I’ve been watching you Izzy. I know that you and your mother have been struggling, but she is your mother and she loves you very much.” I rolled my eyes. He was blinded by love.
