Double Update! I feel bad for waiting so long and for the very dramatic previous chapter so here's another chapter! ☺️
___
Things were getting better. The following weeks were spent in law offices, sorting out the details of the restraining order against Adam, and in court, where I had to face him and confront him in front of everyone. And in the end we won, well, sort of. He was sentenced to six months in jail for breaking and entering but was found not guilty when it came to attempted murder, my bruises apparently not enough evidence. But I wasn't going to let it get me down, everyone assured me that once he was out, he'd never be around me again, never able to hurt me again, and as he was handcuffed and escorted away, I knew it was true. And the person that was with me through it all was Nathan. He'd been there when I needed him most and that meant so much to me. We got closer and was my literal ball of sunshine during this whole case. And that's why now, with him gripping my hand tight and paling more and more by the minute, had me laughing so hard that tears streamed down my face.
"Bethany now is not the time to be laughing," he said through clenched teeth, only causing me to laugh harder, but I knew to stop when he started to look a little upset. Even though his "I'm upset" look looked more like "adorable pout" but I didn't say that out loud.
"Baby, it's just dinner with my family, everything will be fine," I assured him.
We decided after being together for a few weeks that it was time for him to meet my family and for me to meet his, officially that is. So tonight he'd be having dinner with my family, tomorrow we'd be hanging out with my friends and their 'boyfriends', I honestly had no clue what was going on with them because of the crazy stuff that's been going on so I was excited for that, and then the following day, Saturday, I'd be having dinner with his family. I thought I'd be the one who was the most nervous, considering I got caught spending the night with him by his dad, but a shaking Nathan next to me was proving my wrong. He even dressed up though he really didn't need to, but hey, who was I to complain. He was wearing his light blue button down, he said it was accident but I knew he did it because I told him he looked so good in it, with khakis that made his butt look 'better than mine' and his gray vans. When he got out of his car I may or may not (may) have stopped breathing, and he definitely didn't notice (he did). When I could look him in the eye again I led him to the door but he stopped me with panicked eyes before I could open it, which brings us back to where we are now.
"Everything will be fine. My mom and my aunt will think you're incredibly smart and handsome and my brother will think you're the coolest person in the world because you're the star hockey player. Come here," I pulled him into a hug that I physically felt him relax into, smiling at how easily I could calm him down. I gave him an extra squeeze before I went to open the door but he grabbed my arms and drew me back to him, moving his lips against mine. We walked back until I hit the door and just when he deepens the kiss the door opened and we fell back, Nathan putting all his weight on top of me. I looked up and saw my mom looking down on us, thankfully a amused look on her face.
"Nathan, it's lovely to see you again," she said, "dinners ready."
She walked back in the kitchen and well, that's one way to start the night.

Dinner was actually going well. After Nathan was able to somewhat tame the blush on his cheeks, we all sat around the table and fell into an easy conversation. My aunt was in love the minute he complimented her cooking, my mom thoroughly teased him about the falling through the door incident, but I knew that was her way of caring, and my brother was basically worshipping him as a god for being on the hockey team. Right now they were sitting in the living room, sharing stories about being on the ice while us girls cleaned up for dinner. I knew it was because they wanted to talk to me about Nathan but I didn't mind, according to them he's all I talk about anyway.
"I really like him," my aunt Jenny said, rinsing off the dishes and putting them into the dishwasher.
"And we can tell you do too, obviously," my mom laughed, raising an eyebrow at me.
I blushed and looked away from her, my mom could be such a teenager sometimes. "So you approve?" I asked them.
"Of course we do," my aunt said for both of them. She was basically my second mom so it was okay either way. "But we have to set up boundaries. No staying the night, clothes must stay on, body parts stay on the inside-"
"Okay! Okay! I get it!" I cut her off, my eyes popping out of my head at each boundary. "Nothing like that will happen don't worry."
"Better not," my mom said seriously, back to business. "Now let's all go watch a movie."
Nathan stayed through two movies and I curled into his side and he ran my fingers through my hair. My friends teased me that I was a cat in a past life because if you do that you've become my favorite person. I guess I fell asleep halfway into the second movie because I woke up and I was in the air. I flailed for a second before I realized I was being carried by Nathan. He seemed to know where my room was and soon nudged the door open with his foot and placed me on the bed, helping me under my covers.
"Your mom said I could carry you up here as long as there was no funny business," he smiled down at me, sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Did you have a nice time? Like my family and all that?" I asked him, snuggling deeper in my covers and grabbing a hold of his hand.
"Of course I did and of course I do. You think they like me?" He asked quietly, stroking his thumb across my knuckles.
"They loved you," I smiled up at him and grabbed the front of his shirt, pulling him down for a slow kiss. That slow kiss turned into a lazy kiss that turned into a tired kiss so I pulled back before I fell asleep on him. That would be embarrassing.
"Now all I have to do is get through your friends," he said into my neck.
I giggled quietly, knowing he'd be a nervous wreck, again. "It'll be fun. We're going to the carnival right?" I continued when he did a small nod. "And we'll ride rides and play games and you can win me a bear and we can kiss on top of the Ferris wheel, it's gonna be great." I ended with a yawn, giving away how tired I really was.
"Okay sleepy, I'm gonna go and try to get some sleep before tomorrow. Goodnight." He kissed me one more time, lingering to where I had to push him off and towards the door.
"Text me as soon as you get home so I know you're safe!" I whispered, waiting til I heard the door shut before I drifted off to sleep, a smile on my face.
