Dedicated to Payton.

The couple were at it again. One of their consistent arguments. It became so bad that you would have thought arguments was a ritual for them. What was the controversy this time you might ask? Well Payton caught Princeton cheating once again. Yet every time she would come back running to him but not this time, this time was her breaking point.

She began by packing up her things in an old suitcase. She would be going back to her apartment that she kept for anytime they had a disagreement. Just to stay overnight until things cooled down, but this time she would be staying permanently. Throughout her packing up her stuff Princeton constantly tried to persuade her to stay. Once he realized she wasn't he said something. He said that threw Payton over the edge.

"It's not like you're actually going to leave me. You leave me, you come back, ,leave come back. It's a normal routine so I'll see tomorrow." Cockiness and assurance echoed through his voice as he spoke. The fact that he had the audacity not to even try to apologize or to stop her from leaving was what made anger boil inside of her. Payton was absolutely done with tears, and done with coming back to someone who never treated her right.

She chuckled slightly as she turned around to face him. "I'm so sick of the things you put me through. I'm so sick of the cheating, lies, and disrespect. Most of all I'm sick of you toying with me like a fucking rag doll. Don't ever try to speak to me with assurance that you know that I will come back. We're done, it's over between us. Whatever it was that we had is what we use to have." She spoke as if weights had been lifted off of her shoulders.

Then she did what she hadn't done all the other times she said they were through. Payton removed the so called 'Promise Ring' that he had given to her and threw at him. Subsequently after that she walked out of the door and hadn't even thought of looking back.

Three weeks later.

Payton was finally over her past heartbroken relationship. It was time for her to move on. The moping around had came to an end. She finally thought it was the point in her life to get out of the house and just take a walk. Since she was already dressed for the day she grabbed her purse and a light jacket then headed out for a walk. It was near dark and she lived right in the city of New York. She walked down the street not too far from her apartment to Starbucks. Once she walked in and placed her order for Carmel Frappe and walked out someone bumped into her making her spill her drink all over the floor.

"Man, watch where you're going would you?" She spoke not even looking at the person.

"Sorry, but maybe if you would've looked up before opening the door-" Payton cut off whoever was talking and said "So this is my fault? Maybe if you would've watched where you were going on that little skateboard of yours we wouldn't be in this situation." She spoke harshly while looking directly at the person.

"I don't recall saying this was your fault. If you wouldn't have cut me off you would've realized that I was saying maybe if you would've looked up before opening the door I was standing here picking up this 'little skateboard of mine' before someone like you could've tripped over it." The still unknown guy spoke. Payton looked down and mumbled a quick sorry while she attempted to walk away. She was then pulled back by the guy.

"I'm sorry, I didn't quite catch that." He said to her. Payton looked at him dumbfounded as if she was going to apologize again at the situation which she still thought was his fault. "How about we talk about this apology of yours in this place I know?" He said to her.

"How about we walk away and pretend this never happened." Payton responded uninterested. "Suit yourself. But those guys over there look like they would have a fun time with you." Gesturing over to older guys with beer bottles in their hands as he began to walk away. Considering she had walked over to Starbucks and had to go the direction where those older drunk men were she instantly stopped the guy who bumped into her.

"Wait! Um guy!" She called out speed walking towards him. He turned around and simply said 'Jaden' She sighed and said "Jaden. I'll- I'll go with you to the place you know." She spoke hesitantly, why was she considering going with a complete stranger named 'Jaden'?

She had no idea but it seemed a lot safer than drunk guys. He nodded and they walked to some Jazz place Payton had never been to. After living in New York for most of her life how could she have not even passed by this place she thought. Jaden got them a table for two.

She began to examine the place. Dim lights, slow Jazz music the place had a laid back type of feel which she loved a lot. The waitress came and Jaden already knew what he wanted so he ordered for himself and Payton since it was her first time. She just let him order didn't even bother to stop him.

"So, why are we here? I mean you practically are a complete stranger to me. Are you trying to get me drunk, and think you'll have your way with me because if you are just know I will pop open a can of whoop ass." She said in a dead ass tone, giving him a 'Nigga I will cut you stare.'

He laughed slightly and shook his head. "Like I said we are here to talk about that apology you owe me." Payton looked at him in disbelief. No way a guy was going to take her to some restaurant for just an apology.

Before she could say anything the food came out. They both began to eat. Not only did the place have a laid back vibe but had homemade soul food. "So you know my name what's yours?" Jaden asked her curiously. "Payton." She said plainly.

"Well Payton dance with me." Jaden said standing up reaching his hand out. She shook her head.

"Why are you so stubborn woman?" Jaden asked her. "Why are you nice man?" She responded taking his hand.

They both moved to the dance floor. He placed his hands on her waist she put her hands around his neck. The music began to slow down. Jaden pulled Payton closer and began to sway side to side.

"Am I holding you too tight?" He asked sending chills through her body. "No." she whispered.

As much as she wanted to say 'Yes, get the hell off of me' she couldn't. It just felt so right. She placed her head on his shoulder. The danced through two more songs before they payed for their food and left. Jaden walked her back to her apartment.

"Well I guess this is goodnight." Payton said looking at Jaden.

"Yeah, I guess this is goodnight. I'll see you around." Jaden said as he began to walk away but Payton pulled him back.

"Um, here's my number you know if you want to go out, I mean not go out but you know- she was cut off by Jaden's lips over lapping hers. She knew it was to stop her babbling yet she honestly didn't care. His soft plush lips made even her slightest worries fade away. They parted from the kiss.

"Now this is a goodnight." Jaden spoke smiling at Payton. She nodded in agreement and kissed his cheek before walking into her apartment.

Payton sighed in happiness as she entered her apartment. "Maybe I'll give Jaden a chance" she thought to herself.
